Chevy cheyenne 93 five speed manual transmision
I saw at the junkyard a Cheyenne 93 with a 5 speed manual transmision but the engine is V6 not 350 like my C10 69.
Do you know if this transmission could be installed in a 350? Right now Išve a 4 speed manual. |

I have a '90 with the 5-speed that I pulled the factory V-6 out of and installed a carbureted gen1 350 so yeah, it will work. It's gonna be a light duty tranny though.

The only thing I changed was the clutch kit. I put the biggest clutch/pressure plate I could fit in there for a v-8. I even used the v-6 starter for a year.

Since you're swapping the tranny into an older truck you'll need to take the shifter and I'd grab the driveshaft too. You might have to splice them together or find a conversion u-joint so you can use the yoke for the '93 tranny. You'll need to mod the clutch setup though. The '93 will have a hydraulic clutch setup. I don't have the details for that though. There may be a faq on here about it. You'll also need to work out something on the crossmember. I'm not sure if you can just use the crossmember out of the '93 and cut it to fit or what.

Just to simplify things, here is what I would grab out of the '93
The tranny, the shifter and base, the complete hydraulic setup for the clutch including the linkage and rod for the clutch pedal, the driveshaft, and the crossmember. As for the flywheel, use the one that's on your engine now. But, buy a clutch kit for a '93 v-8 so the splines on the clutch disc are right for the tranny's pilot shaft. Replace the brass bushing in the back of your crankshaft while you're at it. |

Thanks again Travis for all the information, I went to the mechanic is going to helping me and he gave a different opttion, He said install a Camaro manual transmission because I wonŽt need the cluth set up. But now what do you think could be the better option?

I have a 90 5spd in my `70. It's like (hiperf4x4) said get every thing you can grab. If you have the big brake booster you will have problems mounting the clutch master cyl. I have the small brake booster and only had to make an 1 1/2" spacer to set the master cyl rod over far enough to clear the small booster. I also put in an 11 7/8 disc and pressure plate for towing. Here are pics of the things I had to do. I put 3200+ miles on this summer and no problems.

I measured down 2 1/2" from the center of the swing point at the top of the pedal arm and drilled and tapped for a 3/8" bolt. I then made the standoff 1 1/2" you see on the pedal arm and drilled the end of that and tapped it for the shoulder bolt (thru the clutch master cyl rod)that was in the `90 truck. The hump is a high hump from a 4x4 but a 4 spd hump would be better as you wouldn't have to weld up the other hole. The hole for a 4 spd shifter is in the perfect location for the 5 spd. My `90 5spd was a short tail shaft so was the turbo 350 that was in the `70 stock. Both transmissions measured the same overall so I didn't have to cut the drive shaft. You'll need turbo 400 front yoke because the tail shaft splines are the same. The problem with the drive shaft from your donor truck is the universal joint will probably be 3 1/2" across and have 1.062 cups. The `70 yoke is 3" across and has 1.0 cups.

I used a torbo 400 front yoke as the tailshaft in the 5 spd is the same and it was a 3" universal. If you find one tha has 1.062 cups but is 3" if you buy a universal for the `70 and one for the `90 you will have both cup sizes. The pin on the universal is the same dia for both joints so just use 2 cups from the `70 and 2 from the `90 and it should work fine. The yoke I found used 1" so it fit my truck.

I didn't mention in the previous post that you will have to move your cross member back and drill new holes in the frame. The `90 trans I used only has 1 rear trans bolt so I only moved it enough to clear the bottom of the trans and welded an ear ( 1 1/2"x3" channel ) on the back of the cross member and drilled 1 hole for the mount. I've towed a 24 ft camper over 500 mi and put a total of 3200+ on it and had no problems. I have no pics of the cross member mods.

I slid the cross member back and used the rear holes in the frame for the front holes in the cross member and drilled new rear holes. Then I used a scrap piece of 1 1/2" x 3" x 2 1/2" long channel and made a tab on the rear of the cross member for the trans mount and drilled for the single bolt that my 5 spd had. I probably took 2 1/2 hrs or so. The drilling was the hardest laying on my back.....glad they were only 3/8" holes.

The booster in Beuford's pic is the small booster. My truck has the big booster. It will hinder placement of the clutch master cylinder.

That was the stock 1970 booster in the truck when I bought it from the original owner. I don't know what all years or models had them but its on a 3/4 C20 from the factory.

Not to steal the post but isn't the 90 5 speeds electic speedometers? And if so how do you get it to work with stock mechcanical speedometer?I'm iterrested also as was running s10/astro van 5 speed and it blowed up not strong enough.

I put new Auto meter gages in the dash. I couldn't find any electric speedos that were a close enough match to the stock instruments so I put all ne gages in. If I could attach a pic here I would but not thru another URL.
