CPP C-Notch welds?
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
I'm looking for your opinion on this. I just received my new C-notch kit pieces from CPP and I'm not real happy with the welding job that was done. The joints don't have full penetration, and are not welded from both sides. Am I just being overly cautious about the part, or should I return it for improper welds like I think I should. Re: C-Notch welds?
No, you're not being overcautious. That c-notch is bull****. I'm getting tired of seeing all the mediocre parts CPP churns out.

Re: C-Notch welds?
Wow. Yeah, send that junk back.
|
Re: C-Notch welds?
That looks like more of an alignment issue in the jig used. If the two pieces were butted correctly it would be fine.
|
Re: C-Notch welds?
Send it back, no doubt about it. As much as I hate to say it, I won't EVER be doing business with that company again. Poor customer service is one thing, but adding on top of that the EXTREMELY poor quality components they have been producing in the last few years has put them on my "S**t list". Hope they don't try to stick you with return shipping or anything... Best of luck to ya

Re: C-Notch welds?
Thanks guys.
I called down there and talked to them. They told me that they don't look at any welds before they send the product out and that "We have sold enough of these to buy a private island, but you are the only person we have ever had complain." It's not like this is what only one joint looks like. ALL the welds look like this. Then he said if he sent me another set of C-notches, I'd probably just be unhappy and complain about those as well. Soooo, I guess I'm going elsewhere with my business. Any suggestions? Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: C-Notch welds?
Porterbuilt, Early Classics Enterprises, Brothers... There are alot of them out there.
I cant believe they were such asses about that, shows what kind of company they really are. I can say this first hand, ECE would NEVER treat ANY customer that way! Buying from CPP = A lesson learned the hard way |
Re: C-Notch welds?
CPP was useful to me once or twice, but I got tired of waiting 2-3 weeks because one part was backordered and no one decided to tell me. There are enough vendors (and innovators) we have access to here, there is NO reason to settle for parts like that....its not like your building a Volga or something awkward.
From a welding side, that was improperly done from jigging to welding. Even worse, it was sent out the door. Who does Q.C. over there anyway? |
Re: C-Notch welds?
Porterbuilt has a section of photos on their facebook page with just pictures of their welds. Kind of the opposite end of the spectrum I guess. Maybe CPP should actually buy that island and get into a different line of work......

Re: C-Notch welds?
I used CPP once and wasn't happy, after reading this I will forget I even know they exist.
|
Re: C-Notch welds?
Use the Porterbuilt c-notch.
It's the best one out there for C10 trucks! Bar none. |

Re: C-Notch welds?
Wow, I am half tempted to email CPP myself just to let them know that their bad attitude and way they handled your issue has lost them another customer, me.

Re: C-Notch welds?
Well, thanks for the replies.
I'm sending the C-notches back tomorrow (and yes, I have to pay to ship back their junk) and I'm ordering from Porterbuilt. |
Re: C-Notch welds?
Ship it back then call your credit card company; theres like a 1-in-5 shot they could do something like a partial chargeback on the shipping costs.....paying to ship back defecting merch that shouldn't have passed Q.C. is bullcrap
OR (if you really want to be a prick) Call the CC first.....1-in-30 shot they just let you keep it and they go after the manufacturer. Yes, I have seen this happen. |
Re: C-Notch welds?
Talk about some jerks! I agree, call your CC company and see if they can help you out any. Let this be a lesson for everyone who reads this post, hell, make this a sticky! Cpp has done a very good job of taking the fun out of this hobby for a lot of people by pulling crap like this. Best of luck to ya

Re: C-Notch welds?
Man that sucks they treated you like that. I have bought a few things from them and always got fast shipping and good comunication from them. Parts were pretty nice too. But if they treat you this way when they ship a flawed part it isn't worth risking it by buying from them again. Am sure you will be happy with any thing from the guys at PB.

Re: C-Notch welds?
If it were me I would contact CPP again and push it further up the ladder. I imagine that this tools boss would love to hear how that conversation went. Unacceptable...

Re: C-Notch welds?
Every time I see these types of posts I just want to stand on my soap box and scream about CPP. I had the worst experience in my life with that company.
1. Quoted a price over the phone and charged my card a completely different amount (not shipping or tax) and when I called back they say they never quoted those prices. (despite a sheet of paper i wrote on during the call...) 2. Took almost four weeks to ship the order. 3. Order arrived missing parts. 4. Called them and was told I had to photograph the inside of the boxes and email it to them. WHY? 5. Called me a liar and said that I did get the parts. 6. Had to email and call everybody under the sun at CPP to get the parts. Then got a lecture full of attitude that they were doing me a favor. 7. Several parts were CRAP. (Cheap Rotors & Bearings) Bearings, races, and seals all thrown in a bag without any boxes or wrapping. Rotors had HUGE amounts of casting material in them. I just threw them all away and went to Checker. NEVER AGAIN. (sorry if I seem bitter) |
Re: C-Notch welds?
I've had good luck in the past ordering from CPP, that said after the attitude you where given, I won't chance it again.

Re: C-Notch welds?
I thought about going further up the ladder
with my issues of their piss poor quality, and lack of customer service, but from seeing the replies to my post, and reading others, I've concluded that it just won't do any good. I will let EVERYONE that will listen to me know to NEVER buy parts from these guys. To add insult to injury, I have to pay for the shipping back to them of their crap that they sent me. Luckily I get a huge discount with FedEx. I guess the bottom line is that I should do A little more research BEFORE I buy my parts. Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: C-Notch welds?
Just do like I do.
If you HAVE to have a CPP product,... order it from someone else like Summit Racing. Then there are no issues when you have to send it back. After Summit Racing gets enough of their junk returned,... they will have CPP fix it,... or they will quit carrying their products. http://www.summitracing.com/search/p...e-c-notch-kits |
Re: C-Notch welds?
Did you try and talk to CPPJeff, he's a boardmember here. He can usually help. My notches were all like that. I just welded where they didn't.
