15" mags with 2-1/2" drop spindles?
I have a set of 15" slots, anyone know if they will work with Disc conversion with 2-1/2" drop spindles?
I don't necessarily need (or even know if I want) drop spindles. Just wondering if they are an option. Who knows, I might just keep the drums, they've worked for 50+ years  http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=25868 |
Re: 15" mags with 2-1/2" drop spindles?
15" wheels can clear up to 3" drop spindles.
Interference varies depending on the back-spacing/offset of the intended wheel. It's common to have some interference @ the lip/gutter of the lower a-arm which requires trimming it down/farther back vs stock. Some wheels can experience tie-rod clearance issues as well. |

4” BS is pretty standard to clear 15’s with a 3” drop spindle and some grinding. A 2.5” drop spindle and the same BS will clear most often times without any trimming.

I guess, a 1/3 drop is as low as I'm willing to go.
I could go lower in the front, but then, the back would look too high, I can't lower the back any more, and haul motorcycles. I think I'm pushing it as is. There's only about 2-1/2" to the bump stops, the way it sets now. I WILL NOT notch the frame, so this is how it will set. -1" CPP front springs -2" Cpp Rear springs 1" drop blocks from board member: Way2Lo2 1/3 Static drop.:) http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=25941 |

Truck looks good, glad you got it sorted out.

Re: 15" mags with 2-1/2" drop spindles?
The drop spindle itself wouldn't be the issue unless the backspacing is more than 4.25", then the inside edge would interfere with the lower control arm. The issue would be caliper clearance. Depending on when(and by who) the wheels were made, they may not have the inside clearance for the calipers. Most likely it won't be a problem, but worth looking into.
FWIW, I can't imagine driving a truck with 4 wheel drums anymore. I've had disc brakes on my 68 since 1 year after I bought it(20 year ago). I drove a friend's 67 a few weeks ago and was appalled at how bad the braking was with the stock drum brakes!! |

Okay, I think I'm happy with the stance now.
2 1/2 drop spindles with stock springs 2" rear springs and 2" blocks. Attachment 2068860 ...Maybe the rear could go down another inch ;) |
