Port-O-Walls

So I tried the Port-o-walls and they failed miserably!!!

I installed them just as the man mentioned on the phone, 36 grit sand paper on the inside lip of the rim, cleaned the side walls of the tires.... one ripped clean off, one partially tore off and the others were fine. This was after 10 minutes of driving.

The guy at Lucas said DO NOT use any adhesive, so I didn't.

I didn't "lose control" of my truck but I was PO'd that I wasted $60 on junk!

My personal opinion, I would use a box of white out before I would even consider port-o-walls....

This happened today!! You would be better off with .50 cents and a book of matches playing fireman!!!

IMO, they're JUNK, don't buy them!!!

BTW - you can have your tires "shaved" for $75 (or do it yourself for fee) You get white walls that actually work and you can't tell the difference.

Are you using bias or radial tires? I've had pretty good sucess using bias tires but heard they wont work on radial. Just man up and buy the real deal if you want whites.

I never heard of them before. I found this Its a little contradictory of bias vs radial. He also says the thicker ones didn't last.

Yeah they are big in the air cooled VW world

Never ran em myself, but I see them a lot

I tried them on a '49 Ford in early 50s. They ripped right off going down the road. Tire man told me wind lifts them off the tire at hiway speeds. Ok for slow driving or show.
I should have saved my money, too.

I've been running mine on my 59 with radials for 2 years. Fronts were starting to get stretched because of the extra weight on the tire. I've bought real wide whites for the front now. Rears are still flappers and work great.
Unless you get right up and flip the edge people can't tell the difference. I've driven mine on the highway with no trouble.
I know they don't work well with lower profile tires. I'm running 70 series.

that truck looks sharp! I've always been just a blackwall fan.. even back in the day when everyone wanted the raised white letters, I always had blackwalls showing...
