Steering knuckle arm
 

Hey guys, new to the Forum ( which is Awesome by the way!)
I recently purchased a '72 Blazer 4WD and would like to put it back to the stock ride hight. I have already purchased the stock front springs from another member on the Forum but I am now curious about whether I will also need to change the steering knuckle arm also. Is there a way to tell if it is a stock one or a lifted one? The PO said he put 4" lift springs on the front and 4" blocks in the rear.

hey man, welcome to the forum. i'm new here as well, but happen to be in the same situation. just bought a 72 with a 4" lift that i'm putting back to stock height.

i got a stock steering arm from someone here on the forum (thanks, dozerbill72!!), because nobody remans the stock steering arm.

i'll try to take pics of them tomorrow. but if you look at the one on there, and there's about 4" of elevation from the base (with the 3 mount holes) to the single hole (where the rear drag link attaches), then it's the lifted one. the stock one is pretty much "flat". from what im told, it's failrly obvious by the ****ty steering if you've got a lift over 2.5" and the steering arm wasn't changed to a lifted arm.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the Blazer! Thanks for the info, I kinda thought it would be a noticeable difference. Pretty sure mine is the lifted one. Going to double check in a few minutes here. Looks like I'll be a paying member here so I can post a wanted to buy add for one! Thanks again.

When the truck is sitting on level ground, you want the drag link to be as close to parallel to the ground as possible. If it's on an angle, you will get bump steer. The drag link is the arm between the pitman and the steering arm.

This is what mine looks like now. I'm guessing this is a lifted arm?

from the same vantage, the stock one would look like the image below (sort of flat, so as hemi43 pointed out...the drag link will stay parallel to the ground).

i got an email from a member here when i was looking, try messaging him...he had a stock arm that he was willing to trade for the raised arm!

Yep, figured as much. Guess I'll be searching the forum for a stocker. I'm going to hang on to all the lifted stuff cuz I might raise it again in the future, after the resto in the future.

Will do but it may be awhile cuz I really need to finish my '67 C10 that I've been working on for about 17 years now before I go and start any new major projects.
