Engines for LUV/S-10's?

Is this info correct?
1.8L 4 cyl (Isuzu)
1.9L 4 cyl (Isuzu)
2.0L 4 cyl (GM)
2.2L 4 cyl (GM)
2.4L 4 cyl (GM)
2.5L 4 cyl (GM)
2.8L 60 deg V-6 (Chevy)
4.3L 90 deg V-6 (Chevy)

Can someone correct or add the missing info?
Thanx
Dano

I know they put the 151 4 cylinder in the S-10 . I think it was 2.2 ltr GM.

all the ??? ones are GM. the 2.0 thru 2.4 are basically the same, just progressive increasement in size.

Re: Engines for LUV/S-10's?

I was just wondering which engine will go into my LUV with minimal amount of work. The V-8/V-6 swap requires a lot of fab work. I was going to go with either an Iron Duke 4 or a 2.8L 60 deg V-6.

Re: Engines for LUV/S-10's?

See if you can find a RWD Isuzu Impulse 2.0L motor. They are the same block (with punched out cylinders) as the stock engine, but the camshaft angle is corrected (stock Luv engines were retarded 4 deg).

The water pumps, head gaskets, intake manifolds, everything is all the same. Only differences in the two were the pistons, rings, camshaft.

If you can then find the Holley / Weber 2 bbl from a Pinto and get the adapter plate, you've got a screaming monster of an engine. JC Whitney still sells the dual port headers for the stock Luv as well.

Cool! I be on the look out, sounds like a simple swap and I can get rid of the Hitachi carb at the same time.

Izusu impulse turbo swap ! The fab work to put a gm 4 cylinder is about the same as the v-8 .

Re: Engines for LUV/S-10's?

Oh, forgot one thing in my above post - if you go for an Impulse motor, get one out of a turbo model, even if you're not going turbo. The crank, rods and pistons are all forged stock in the turbo motor versus cast in a non-turbo motor. Just rip the intake and exhaust manifolds off your motor and bolt them right on to the turbo motor.

Just for gawd's sake put the intake on the motor BEFORE you install it!! Getting the underside nuts on the #2 & #3 cylinders on the intake while the engine's in place are the biggest PITA you'll ever come across!! The EGR is RIGHT in the way. You end up putting the wrench on open end, using two fingers (no thumb) to move it a little, then flipping the wrench over the other way, rinse and repeat until you finally discover you can't get enough torque to seal the intake gasket and end up pulling the motor back out anyways!!

sorry to dig this back up but:
the Luv originally came with the Isuzu 1.8L 4cyl

MickeyD had the best option above... find an Isuzu V-6 and things will go much smoother
