2 1/2" ram horn exhaust manifolds? Or something better?

I want to swap out my headers (Hooker Competition) for some 2 1/2" ram horns. (Or is there something better that won't leak?)
Anyone know the best place to order a set?
Once done anyone who wants my old headers can pick them up free of charge.

Bigeasy -

I switched to 2 1/2-inch ramhorns a while back after giving up on getting my headers to seal. Best mod I ever made. I can get you the Dorman part numbers for the right and left units if you want. Think they were like $90 a piece, but I could be wrong, its been a while. You could try to find an actual GM set, but that could take a while and cost you more.

Love the numbers if you get a chance...I'm so ready for a leakless exhaust.

I made the swap 10 years ago and consider it one of the best mods I have made. I also went to Dynomax Hemi turbo mufflers and leave the throaty sound and almost stock noise level at idle. Here is a link to one I found, I used two of these and just bandsawed the alternator mount off and ground the sharp edges.

Dorman 674-504

Get two of these: Amazon.com: Dorman OE Solutions Exhaust Manifold... Amazon.com: Dorman OE Solutions Exhaust Manifold...
There is also another thread discussing this above this one.

That is 2 of the left hand sides correct? These do not have the heat tubes on them? And you just grind off the alt. mounts? Correct? Thanks for the link BTW.

Use these remflex exhaust gaskets. i use them on every car I can.

http://catalog.remflex.com/

They will seal your headers up. I've got hooker comps that I put on 8 years ago with these gaskets. I re-tightened them at 500 miles. 8 years later no leaks.

Speedway motor has them for $60 each. Part # 930-0327-Side. Specify L or R.

on the chevy? RF2006...I think. I'd have to check my records. I've also used them for other makes too. The work really well when you have a pitted manifold surface you need to seal.

Have not pulled them but I'm sure they are warped.

probably, I've had some success with bending them back on other vehicles as well.

If I was going to redo everything I probably would have gone with ram horns 2nd time around. Stock appearing is more my style now.

Agreed ...I'm going the ram horn route less worries and its a PITA to remove drivers side.

Re: 2 1/2" ram horn exhaust manifolds? Or something better?

I am also using the 2-1/2" ram horns and I love them. I also wanted to be able to remove them easy so I could work on my heads if necessary. I cut my exhaust pipes on each side just behind my motor and I installed a ball and socket exhaust connector like the ones that were on fox body mustangs and hipo thunderbirds. I don't have the problem of trying to tighten the three bolts at the bottom of the manifold in such a tight space anymore.

Got pics? don't know nothing about fords, or a link to the ball and socket joint

Here are a couple of pics I just took. I cut the socket off a 1990 ford t-bird with a hipo motor. The 1987-1993 mustangs also have the same type of flanges on the H-pipe.

Thank you for taking the time, now I understand. Seems like a much easier setup than fooling with the 3 bolts on the exhaust manifold..yes it is tight up there

Nice Bass!

i have a set locally but im not sure if these part numbers are correct. I would like to put an original set back on my blazer but would these work?

3733976 (LEFT, LH) and 3747038 (RIGHT RH)

Re: 2 1/2" ram horn exhaust manifolds? Or something better?

Original manifolds were 2 1/4" outlet. The 2 1/2" flow significantly better and look the same for the most part, not sure about your part numbers.

zombie thread revival.

Bigeasy, which manifolds did you end up going with? Dorman? How do you like them after all this time?

Thanks
