Static Drops!!!

Hey guys, I'd just like to see some pictures of static drops. No bags or anything of that nature, just springs, notches, lowered a arms, and whatever else. I'm waiting on my 3/4 drop to come in the mail.

Don't forget to post specs on the drop!

Pardon the dirt, it's been in a shed for 8 years. This is my front end. 2" modded lower a-arm with 2" drop springs. Then 3" rear drop springs and 2" blocks. no c-notch and it rode decent when it was driving 8 years ago.

Good looking trucks guys, you have any problems with the 5" drop in the rear hitting the bump stops?

Never pass an opportunity to show off the ride;)

dropped spindles, 3 in drop springs, 6in rear plus spacer (rear gas tank might help lower too)

Re: Static Drops!!!

I might need to cancel my order for 4" rear springs and go with a 3/5" drop, I'm really liking those lower rear ends. I'd got with a 6" spring but I can only do 3" springs out front and don't have the money for dropped spindles. Good looking trucks guys! Keep the pictures coming!

I know everyone has seen mine before and probably heard the story but here it goes . The rear is a GMC leaf conversion flipped the front I made and is a combo of cut springs and lower spring pockets . Did all of it myself no parts out of boxes . Rides and drives good !! The wheels are 15x11 rear and 15x7 front . Rear tires are 235/75/15 and are too small the front are 235/75/15. Enjoy , Bob

I'm loving those 4/6 drops, any ride issues? Hitting the stops?

Excellent look Matt. I like it. What back spacing are those wheels? Anything else you can tell me about the suspension parts so I can make a shopping list?

I beleive backspacing is 4.25" on mmy wheels. The rest of suspension goes like this:
Front-
2.5" drop spindles (ECE)
1" drop springs (CPP)
KYB shocks

Rear-
5" rear springs (ECE)
ECE Super Track Bar
ECE shock relocator kit
KYB shocks

So far, I've had no clearance, rubbing, or bumping issues anywhere. I'm also running 2.5" exhaust all the way back. The exhaust was run with the 4" rear drop. When I changed to the 5" drop and Super Track Bar, the pipe on the passenger side would hit the track bar if I left it in the top hole of the bracket. With the bar mounted in the lower hole, it doesn't hit at all. If you don't have exhaust yet, it's no big deal, the muffler shop will build to fit.

I don't know how you guys are running 5+ in springs with no notches. When I first tossed in my 5 in springs it was sitting right on the bump stops, maybe enough clearence to get a finger under. Even coming up and over the lip of my drive way it would slam those bump stops. They were used springs so they were already broken in...

Any ways, 3/5:

Then tossed in the new 3 inch springs in back, brand new so they haven't settled in yet:

Re: Static Drops!!!

Early Classic advises that you shave your rear bump stops so that 1/8" of rubber is exposed beneath the frame. If you do this it will not rub at all, (unless you have a big load in the bed).
You should also shave some off the front bump stops if you drop 3.5" or more.

Checkout ECE's website, they have a couple of pages that will show different era truck's with multiple drops on the same truck. This will help to determine which lowering kit will work best w/ your truck.

Click here... (click on the page link at the bottom for more pics)

I am running 2.5/4.0 ECE equipment on mine, and I really would like to take another inch out of the altitude. When it was upgraded, all of the wearable suspension components were replaced, so it drove like new....better, even.

The first pix was made soon after the work was done in September of '01. The second pix was made in October of '07. Currently, the truck is extremely disassembled.

Re: Static Drops!!!

clos69,

thanks for the compliments! i've still got lots i want to do to her but she's a nice driver for now.

the tires are: 255/60R17 on an 8" rim in front.
285/60R17 on a 9.5" rim at the rear.

I think I used 4.5" backspace and 5" backspace respectively.

I did use the shock relocators in the rear, (they come with the drop kit from Early Classic). I also installed their Super Track Bar in the rear and their extra beefy swaybar in the front. It handles like a slot-car!

Cheers,
Pete

Re: Static Drops!!!

Actually I have a C notch and I got special upper A arms, from Brothers, that compensate for camber/castor on lowered trucks (lowered 5+ inches)
http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=UCA7200.

I took my truck in to check alignment as it jumps around a little bit when in full lock and found out tire may be rubbing lower control arm. I'm getting the control arm cut out in that area and boxed to regain strength (I'll take pics).

It really rides great other than that.... you know how it is, one thing leads to another when you try to take it a little farther:alky:
