69-72 roll bar

I'm going to be making these soon. I have an add on the part board. The family bar will come later too.

Cool. Can you post a pic of the style you will be building?

Any idea on your price point for the family bar? I think the original was offered at $100 if that helps you :)

I have a original Hickey in my truck now (paid $50 for it) but have seen some other styles I like better. Sterling Enterprise makes a big fat 3" one but that's a bit much. 1 3/4 dia. is just right. Lets see what you got.

Sounds good. With inflation from 1970 that's $600. I'll make it for $500 lol

Hello all. I just wanted to mention a little info. My Blazer has, what some call, the stock roll bar. Got tired of hitting head on it and it ringing my bell lol. I have a friend with a older Toyota 4 runner with a roll bar. The factory pad that came on the 4 runner fits my roll bar nealy perfect. Just so you know, if you didn't already. 👍👌

Did the family bar just extend over the rear area? Can't say I remember the Hickey version of this. Anyone have pics?

Re: 69-72 roll bar

It's great to see these being reproduced. I need some help and if it's ok I'd like to ask here where minds are on roll bars.

I have a new uninstalled roll bar that had a paper 73-91 label on it. I bought it for my '85. The thing is, the dimensions don't work out right. It is too short to sit on the floor behind the front seats. Remember, the next generation floor steps up at front of rear seat, not right behind the front seats. If I set it back on the raised floor I think it's still not right. Been a while, can't recall high or low but thinking too high. Also, the rear stays would not hit the wheel house right. The letters came off the label as soon as it got wet, but I swear it said 73-91, not 69-72. I'm wondering if it was labeled wrong and was hoping I could get some general dimensions from a 69-72, either from a roll bar or just what a K/5 would require. There are mounting tabs on the main hoop to fasten at the top of the bedside (inner face), so a floor to top of bedside would help. I'll grab dimensions off of it and get back here.

special-k here are some specs on a roll bar for 69-72 blazers. I think these came from sterling ent. a few years ago. planned to have one made and then I came across the Hickey I have now which is cool to have but not my favorite style.

That's a Smittybuilt bar BTW not the stock bar. Good to know about the 4Runner pad though.

Actually, didn't that take place in '78 with the fold and tumble rear seat and the '73-'77 were flat like the 69-72? Haven't messed with near as many square bodies so my years may be off a little.

I know my dad's '81 had the drop at the front of the back seat but the '76 I have has the drop right behind the front seat so the same bar should be close to working.

Good point. Was only thinking of what I have compared to 69-72. The label spanned the whole period, so if it's right that makes me thing it installs where it is stepped up, just in front of wheel house. I haven't checked in so long I can't recall all the issues. Time to dig into it. Thanks for the help

Mike C. Thanks for response. So now I know I have a Smitty Built roll bar. Cool! I had no idea sense it is painted and I would have no way of knowing that.

Also, more on the 4 Runner pad. I only mentioned because it is a really nice pad that works great and has a zipper.

I'll post a pic tonight but yes it will be the same 1.75" tube and will include a hoop at the rear and 2 bars connecting to the main hoop.
