Windshield gasket
Found some windshields, but can find no reviews on the gaskets for fit or quality, of course each one states theirs is best…Steele has been in business for years, Precision admits on their site they are made overseas🙁. What have you used and was it a good product..?

Re: Windshield gasket
I've had better luck with Precision on a few, including 60-63 installs recently, as well as mine. The windshield install is relatively easily with the help of one friend. I would strongly recommend setting the seal around the windshield (held in place with masking tape) for several days before attempting the install. The 64-66s were a breeze.
I found the Steele seals to be a little more difficult to work with and the ones I installed had a gap at the bend at the bottom of the A-pillar on the 60-63s. Those were many years ago, so the seals might be better today. |

As can be seen in the photo, this is the same here, but I don't know who the seal is from, but it is much softer than the Precision one, which I also have.

Re: Windshield gasket
Thanks for the replies and information, depending on cost, may buy one of each and use the best fitting one…

Re: Windshield gasket
There's also the NOS option, although I have bought NOS GM rubber before only to find it dry rotted. There is a 60-63 one on ebay now. Also saw a 64-66 one there recently.

Re: Windshield gasket
I've always had good results with Precision. They are what my windshield guy recommended and so far I've used 2 windshield gaskets, 2 rear window gaskets and 2 press on door weaterstrips from them. All good.

Re: Windshield gasket
On my 62 with the original windshield the Steele gasket would not work. I bought one from CJ pony parts and it fits decent.

Re: Windshield gasket
FYI …called LMC truck today to order a windshield gasket, gave the parts number lady said number, asked who manufactured said part…crickets…got transferred to customer service, was informed they would sell me the part number, but would not give me the manufacturer of said part…said it was company policy….guess I will be buying parts elsewhere

Re: Windshield gasket
I just had the original windshield in mt 66. I bought the seal from Precision, and it fit perfectly. Classic Parts sells Precision brand rubber.

I used precision on my 66 GMC. Hired glass guy who gave up after 3 hours trying to get it in. Would only use foaming glass cleaner as his lubricant. Talked with guys who did glass in 60's that recommended a better lubricant. They talked about using motor oil, but I settled on white lithium spray grease. With the grease, I was able to set it by myself. Glass seemed to center very well by having sufficient slip with the grease. Was very happy with precision quality once it was in. Hope that helps. Re: Windshield gasket
Thanks for the feedback, have a Precision gasket coming, hopefully it goes well, was not easy or cheap to find a NOS windshield…

Re: Windshield gasket
If a glass guy can’t get a windshield in with soap or glass cleaner, you need a different glass guy.
