advice on speaker placement
 

72 c20. just put in stereo, 5 1/4 in doors (cut by po). where to put some 6x9s? put in a set of buckets from a 98 chevy truck, but i don't know if they are staying in. feel like i am sitting too high and too close to st. wheel. the tank is still in the cab, and i have no imidiate plans to relocate it, although that would solve a lot of problems. So if the stay in, i will build a box to put between them, but if i put the bench back in, where can i put the speakers? i could make kick panels, but it seems they may be in the way. any ideas? any kick panel plans you guys have out there? a pattern would be nice, im no carpenter! let me know what y'all did, give me some ideas............thanks.

I am having the same dilenma, because of the gas tank and keeping the benchseat, so I will be watching this thread closely.

Relocate the gas tank or put some shallow mount subs under the bench seat.

What you can do is create a special box (can't remember the name of it right now, where you build individual boxes for each 6x9, but then link them via a large PVC pipe and cut a port into it in the middle.

Basically it would look like a large pipe with the speaker boxes as book ends. You would need to put the two speakers as far apart as possible and cut the hole for the port in the dead center of the pipe. This configuration can give two 6x9's relatively the same output as a 10-12" sub.

sounds like a cool idea, may give it a try if i put the bench back in. I built a box for it today, threw the speakers in to test it out. it sounds ok, but of course could be better. i'm used to the systems in my other vehicles. anyway, the buckets are still in. i hooked them up to power and adjusted them as much as i could to get them as low and as far back as posssible. permenent power will be supplied if they stay. i need to drive it for a while to decide. anyway built the box between the seats, it looks similar to the sillouete of a chair. both 6x9's are set in there at opposite angles, and both facing forward. i didnt have room for the original plan, which was to make a dog house shape so they would face the driver/pass, but no room. So, it could sound better. i'm sure it sounds good to the windshield! i also made it in this shape to help hide the gas tank, since the buckets don't really cover the middle! i can take pics if anyone is interested. let me know! again, it's not yet covered with carpet, but will be soon. let me know if you want to see it. i will update if anything changes.

kick pannels will sound the best. i built these. plenty of room and the ebrake is out of a toyota...

Well I took my pioneer 6 cd changer out from under the seat (proly shouldv'e left it) and took my cheapo speakers out from under the seat in there plastic rattly boxes...and pulled my head unit (old as heck its cassette)..so in the market for newer cd player head unit and..proly some kidna kick pannels (frostie, howd u make yours)^^^?? i like em!
