Another Mystery Part
1 Attachment(s)
This is kinda embarrassing; I've been working on cars and trucks for 50 years but I have never come across this.
I bought a CPP disc brake conversion kit and this came in the caliper box, one with each caliper: It's a square O-ring, about 1 1/2" OD. I have no idea what this would have to do with a caliper install. 67-72 C10 Any ideas? |
Re: Another Mystery Part
Packing material?

Re: Another Mystery Part
I suppose that's a possibility although the way they were just laying in the box they weren't doing much!

Re: Another Mystery Part
Did the calipers come with the pads already installed?
The oring way have been there or provided to keep the pads in place during install. |
Re: Another Mystery Part
Calipers were loaded but the bolts were also installed which kept them in place.

Me too! I'll save them for alternate uses!

Re: Another Mystery Part
The two mounting bolts pass through two sleeves in the "ears" of the caliper.. Inside each of those holes in the "ears" is a groove.. Those O-rings fit in that groove, and the sleeve passes through it.
The brake section of my '71 Service Manual shows a blow up picture of the caliper.. Those O-rings are shown in that picture... |
Re: Another Mystery Part
These O-rings are about 4x the the size of the mounting bolt O-rings.
