I guess you should have baught it then.

In the last 2 years I built a Suburban, an Excursion, and got my Longhorn done enough to drive around and tore it back apart. There just hasn't been enough time for this truck.

It's time to knock the snow dust off this old thread............. I sold my 95 F350 and have decided to get this truck together. The truck is pulled out of it's resting spot, and waiting to get in the shop. I have started purchasing new parts for it already. I sold the front clip that was on it already. I ordered a new cowl hood, fenders, inner fenders, and hood springs from LMC. Then I ordered new 2.5" lift springs for the front, a rebuild kit, billet servos, lock up and over drive solenoids, for the 47rh, a steering box reinforcement plate for the frame, and new bed sides for the box. I'm going to put a P-pump 12v in it with a 47rh, and a 2nd gen dodge radiator and intercooler. Paint plans are up in the air. I may just end up painting it hot rod black so I can get it on the road. I have that material on hand, so it is the easiest at the moment. When we pulled the truck out, I noticed the RH rear door had some rust poking through on the lower inner seam. I traded for some rust free really nice black rear doors with body mouldings to remedy that. I have to fix the cowl where a DT466 slammed into it and rolled it back. Hopefully I can get it in the shop and get going on it in the next week or so.

Looking forward to this. Glad your knocking the dust off this one.

Thanks me too. I actually almost sold it but after we drug it out, I couldn't let it go for the small price I put it for sale for.

I need some input on mirrors. I think I've decided to ditch the plastic blazer/suburban mirror like is currently on the LH door. I have been contemplating going back to the stainless mirror that these trucks had for years. I actually thought of getting the heated ones from LMC. But I have concerns of quality as most of these mirrors seem to rust really quickly. I have also half heartedly thought of putting newer GM or ford tow mirrors on it. I can't decide.

Last friday my parts came from LMC. The hood, and 2 inner fenders were all that I accepted. The RH fender was damaged, LH bed side was damaged, and the RH bed side had a fuel fill hole when I ordered a non fill hole bed side. So basically, I'm still waiting for half of my stuff from them. The leaf springs, steering box reinforcement plate, my head gasket, and trans parts showed up. So now I have to move the 16" of snow that turned into 3' drifts, to get it in the shop.

Never been impressed with LMC. So glad to see you have time for this one again. i lie the quad pod mirrors on these trucks.

That sucks about the damaged parts. Sure they make it right eventually but just that down feeling after being excited about then coming and the hassle.
I like the ss mirrors you mentioned for these trucks. I think that would be my fist choice but I do like the idea of the heated ones too. I never experienced heated mirrors until this winter in my wife's new CR-V. It's nice.

Are you going for looks or function? The black west coast style mirrors that came on late model ford cube vans are a real nice mirror. Only a bit gaudy looking but so dam functional. A truck that gets used can't cave big enuf mirrors on it IMO. They are plentiful as well and have a convex built into the bottom. That does mean a few extra holes in the doors tho. But I think the functional part would be worth it.

Here is the mirror I meant. Not too much tube. The mirror it's self is ok looking
And the top bracket has a ball on it that will pop off in event of impact instead of tying your door in a knott as many westcoast mirrors do.

Re: 1976 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Short Box Cummins Build

Thanks for that link and idea. I'm still undecided if it'll look good on this truck. I definitely want a functional mirror, that doesn't look like dumbo coming down the road. I've had to deal with the little paddle mirrors on my ford for the last 3.5 years.

An update on my missing/damaged parts from LMC. The money hit my account yesterday, so I figured I'd order them today. Nope. A regular sales rep can't complete my transaction because they can't remove the shipping from the order. I have to wait until Monday. I'm getting really tired of their carp. The carptacular headliner in the Longhorn started it, and this might put the nails in the coffin.

Here's one with stock ss mirrors.

I guess this is another option too if I can find some.

Here's a flat black one with the style of wheels I have on it now.

And another with a visor.

I don't have any pic worthy progress, just a progress report. My RH fender finally came in un damaged. My bed sides should be here tomorrow. I got rid of the plastic newer style blazer/burb mirrors. Still undecided on the mirrors as of right now. I ordered some more misc stuff from LMC. I have to put a new lift pump and fuel lines on the excursion, then I can get on this thing.

Both the trucks above are nice. I like the gm mirrors like on the blue 79 but I would be afaraid of bumping into something and having them fold in the whole dam door. The cool looking mirrors on the black truck are likely not big enuf for a truck that has any trailering time in its future. This truck is being built to be your dd?

Re: 1976 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Short Box Cummins Build

I like the old ss mirror on the blue. I've towed some with this style on dads old 78 and work better. However not as sharp as the black truck smaller style. I think it matters more how your going to drive it as 6BT 56 is indicated.
Interested how you like dealing with LMC. I found a dealer for them here in Ontario and was thinking about ordering some small front fascia items to try em out.

The small black mirrors definitely look nice, but I agree. I doubt they'll be adequate for towing a wide or long trailer. I think i have my mirrors like this sold already.

Yeah, it definitely is a super nice truck. It would have been a nice addition to the fleet!

Today my bed sides came from LMC. The rh was ok, and the lh was damaged and it looks like it has sat in a body shop for some time. I'm pretty sure it was returned once before for this same damage. Hopefully this next one comes non damaged.

Today some more pieces arrived from LMC. Some hardware for the front clip, front led side marker lights, wiper arms, a cowl screen, head light rings, and some body shims. Tomorrow my DPC torque converter should be here too.

Today my DPC torque converter showed up, and so did my seat belts I got from member 396ci.

I haven't made any big progress on the truck as far as actual work completed, but I have gained a lot in parts aquired. I got some 35x12.50R 16" Good Year Wranglers for it this summer. Then baught some 16x10 Raceline wheels and mounted the 35s on them. I also got a cross over steering kit, SS extended brake lines, and HD greasable front shackles from ORD. I got a reman 2wd Napa gear box, and worked a deal on a 94 160hp engine with coolers and accessories. I picked up another 47rh that is a diesel core, my other one was a V10 one. I scrounged up some cab mouldings and more back doors from a friend as well. It's been tough spending money on this truck while trying to get our house the way we want it and everything else. My Corvette goes to storage this week. Once I get the trans in the Longhorn, this truck comes home and the work will begin.
