Need Help
I have a 1971 chevy blazer 350 with air short water pump. I have 3 pulleys on the crank 2 on the water pump. cant get the power steering pump to line up. Did they make a power steering pump that was different for AC or pulley?

Re: Need Help
You may have the wrong brackets on your pump post up a pic of your setup we may be able to help by that, there are a lot of people on here with stock set ups

Re: Need Help
That’s my guess too. Pump and or pump brackets.

Should look something like this, I used a couple flat washers behind mine to line it up correctly....photo's from someone with a clean shop...not mine.

Here's Harold's setup, the power steering pulley is beyond the crank pulley. When he bought the blazer it had the wrong pump so he pieced everything together. It's a 71 with factory air do they use a different pump or pulley or both than none a/c and if so does anyone have part numbers.

Thanks, Dwayne for posting pictures for me.

Re: Need Help
A simple pulley change on the pump should fix you up. Your pulley is inline with the hub, need one that offsets back. Did a quick search for "71 chevy truck power steering pulley" Quite a few came up. If you do not have a PS pulley puller/installer will have to buy or rent.

Re: Need Help
I think it is the pulley, look at the pictures that notsolo posted the pulley has a longer nose on it.

Re: Need Help
Richard, I think you are write, Now I have to find that pulley with the longer nose on it.
|
Re: Need Help
Does not have a longer nose. On your pulley the belt groove is inline with the hub. On the other it is dished back from the hub. Understand? Not sure if yours has keyway? https://www.amazon.com/Team-Performa...GNZANGRM95AZYQ

I took a look at mine. The Blazer has a four groove pulley on the crank (CA emissions AIR equipped) and a flat pulley on the pump. The k20 has a three groove pulley on the crank and a “recessed” pulley on the pump. Both have AC. The K20 engine was shifted forward to accommodate a 700r4 transmission hence the tighter space.
Edit: the pump and presumably the pulley are original to the Blazer per the date code on the pump. |
Re: Need Help
Thanks, Deadhead I just ordered a dish pulley ,the one on my pump is flat like the 4 grove pulley.

Re: Need Help
You bet. Hope that fixes it. Keep us posted.

Here is what he has now but I believe possible he has the right crank pulley. According to the link below Classic Bowties recommends a different power steering pulley than the one he just bought.

Could a wider than stock harmonic balancer be displacing a correct pulley?
Here are the sections from the parts book for crank and PS pulleys. Note the p/n on your crankshaft pulley is for a 3/4-1t non-PS application and a 307 motor and others w no PS. You need the correct one for PS. |
