1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
5 Attachment(s)
I followed up on a lead about this truck that took me back to Winchester, Tn for the second time this year. The older gentleman had told me that he built the truck just like the one he owned in the early 90's. When I seen the truck for the first time it was a "flashback" to high school for me... killer paint, cowl hood, Boyd wheels, and fuzzy dice. I was blown away with how nice the paint and body was, so we struck up a deal and towards the house I went. I spent the weekend cleaning and putting a game plan together. I've ordered the 4.5/6 drop kit, 20" Torq Thrust, new carpet, mats, door carpets, and blazer back bumper. I'm planning a heavy dose of detailing as I work on each stage and will get started next week.

The interior has been restored but still needs a little refresh in places.

A great starting point for another killer truck done with your straight forward plan.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
Where did you order the bumper?

How’s the chrome quality and do you have a preferred seller or just a crash parts place?
|
Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
I've been buying them from reviveautopart on e-bay, they have been LKQ or goodmark bumpers. They are the typical offshore quality but the fit has been good so far. Last time I found a NOS blazer bumper it was over a $1000.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
I bought the $100 factory replacement and a set of goodmark brackets were cheaper on ebay than rockauto. Hopefully its decent quality since it was the same stock photos for the goodmark, etc. I did buy 4 4wd front valances from rockauto for $100 shipped though. I always hate having to play with the shipping on Rock auto though. $20 each but $40 shipping for 1. $20 shipping for 4.

Finally started on the teardown and clean up process. I should have everything cleaned and painted this week and start reassembly this weekend.

I just pulled the trigger on this...we'll see if I like the contrast of grey on red or not.

Following. I am not sure about those wheels over Torque Thrust. I thought about them for my current square.
|
Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
I may still end up with torq thrust, I gave my wheel guy 2 weeks to get them or I’ll take the torq thrust. Billet Specialties has a polished version coming soon instead of the grey. So if this deal falls through I’ll get them next time.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
Owen and I looked at that BS wheel at LST a few weeks ago. Really nice wheel for the price point. The gray looked a bit to dark for us, but the polished was going to be only like $30 more per wheel. Not a bad price point for a wheel from them.
|
Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
I'm hoping its lighter in person than in pics. My wheel guy bought 5 sets so I don't have to take them if I choose not to.
|
Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
So those are BS wheel? Are they staggered also? Those might look good on the 64 I’m doing.
|
Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
Yes sir they’re Billet Specialties. They’re available in 18 & 20” and 8.5 & 10” widths and all are 0 offset I believe. A polished version will be available in next few months.
|
Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
They should be readily available then, huh? No custom ordering?
|
Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
I think that’s the goal. My wheel man was told they’re looking to carry 3-5 styles in a cast 1 piece wheel with standard backspaces.

Re: 1986 C10 Project "Flashback"
Any word on the wheels?
