Suggestions for classic style wheels?

Anyone have experience with nice classic looking 17" wheels that work well? I'd love to see pictures of wheels that keep that classic look, but allows a little more room around the rotor.
I had a surprise when I upgraded my brakes (see http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=749153 ), and I'm looking for some nice wheels to purchase in the next 6 months that keep that classic look, but allows for a look-thru to see the shiny new Wilwood calipers.

I went through a similar search but without the open style you are looking for. I initially purchased Wheel Vintiques smoothie 12 in a 16 inch sized but decided against them after sitting in my garage for a year or so...I mention them because they have many style and sizes that are generally classic looking. There is also Detroit steel and Stockton but I do not know their specific styles. So, I ended up going with Fifteen52 wheels due to their Monoblock manufacturing process and style. They have a style called Analog HD that is an old school design in a modern wheel and a couple others.

I ended purchasing and installed these:

I like them a lot. I always appreciate the original style steel look and rarely like modern wheels on old cars or trucks. Somehow these are what I went with and, to me, do not detract from the vintage look or look out of place.

I have the same issue....compounded by the fact that my C20 has 8 lug hubs. Id kill to find a 17 inch steel wheel in the 8 lug bolt pattern. I also upgraded my brakes, and 16" wheels just barely dont clear the Wilwood D52 calipers. Like adzints7, I also like some of the options from Fifteen52. They've recently come out with this classic looking wheel...again, not offered in 8 lug unfortunately.

They make the other style wheels in 8x165, maybe if you contact them they might have an 8 lug option available in this wheel style...

Hard to go wrong with slotted mags...These American Racing ones look great on 4x4s.

Yea, I'm currently running these Baja's from American Racing as well. I don't hate them, but I'm not in love with them either. At the time, I needed wheels 17" that would clear my new brakes, and this was the only thing I could find in 8-lug that didn't look like something out of a Florida-Georgia Line video :puke:

We bought those Americans for my kids Jimmy project as well. It's also blue but we decided the black was not as good looking as polished would be. It now has the Centerline Chrome bullets off my Jimmy and the Americans are on my Jimmy. Black looks good on the white and the chrome really makes the blue pop.

Both of our trucks are 8 lug conversions.

They are a timeless wheel so it's never a bad choice. I'm not a fan of most late model wheels on 67-72's.

Re: Suggestions for classic style wheels?

agreed....I was afraid the chrome version would be too much. If they offered polished, I probably would have gone with that, but I thought black was the safer bet between the two. It would be really nice if they offered the Baja in a shot peened center with polished outers like the old Torque Thrusts.

Re: Suggestions for classic style wheels?

I had a set of Alcoa’s on my C2500 Sierra Grande 20 years ago. When I sold it I put them on my Duramax truck where I ran them for a few years. They then wound up on a truck at the farm for the last 10 and just last month I polished them again and put them on an ‘83 crew cab truck I bought.

The Alcoa is still my favorite 8 lug wheel but is limited to just a 16x7. And they are expensive. But they are forged and beautiful when freshly polished. That combined with a 265 75 16 is an excellent choice for a stock height 67-72 8 lug truck. And if you want a tall skinny tire on a lifted truck would look sweet as well. I think BFG offers a 35 10.5 16?

Edit: It was not BFG who made that tire. Don’t remember who now.

Thanks for the tips and feedback! After some research (and a failure with Vision Silver 55 Ralley wheels https://www.lmctruck.com/1967-72-che...ilver-55-rally ), I'm going to attempt Cragar Silver Rally II Wheels: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crr-1722475537 I'll let y'all know how it goes!

So does this wheel allow you to use the classic Corvette center cap?

Got 'em installed with some Delinte DX-12 BANDIT R/T LT305/65R17 tires. After a couple initial failures, I'm glad I kept searching. I really like the way they turned out! I was a bit worried with the larger wheels that Big Yeller wouldn't fit in the garage anymore. I picked the tire size so it wouldn't exceed the 15" wheel + 33" tires previously installed. With the roof rack I had about 1" clearance. Whew!

I have a little shimmy at 65mph that I need to get rectified. I don't think the balancing is quite right.

iriereggaeman - are you riding at stock height or do you have a lift? What was the backspace/offset?

iriereggaeman 07-13-2020 07:23 PM

Re: Suggestions for classic style wheels?

Hey polishspy - I have a small lift, maybe 2 inches. Some photos can be found here, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=749153

Here's the link for the wheels purchased, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crr-1722475537
it shows ~5" backspacing. No offset.

Thanks for the information. I have a 4" lift just was curious for rub. I do like the wheels, but need 8 lug.
