67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

Ok guys I need some serious help with direction on building this truck! First off it's a 67 lwb nicknamed by my wife "green gobblin" because it's obviously green and going to be gobblin up all my money! Lol This truck comes straight off the farm where it's been sitting since 79! Motor and trans were pulled years back (292 3ott) after the diff blew apart! I bought this to do a patina style build and chop it up and make a swb truck! So my plans so far are to do the floors, rockers, cab corners, chop the frame and box and do a 5 or 6" static drop! Basically I want to keep the green patina and build around it. I also bought a 72 c10 lwb with a 350/350 combo to use the powertrain and 5 lug stuff. Unfortunately it had a engine fire and burn a good chunk of the engine bay and motor! But I'm sure I can get it running again? So that's about it for now! I will get some pics going right away!

I know everyone loves pics so heres a few more! Once i dug the nest out of the glove box i found the owners manual with what I'm guessing is a protecto-plate? Kinda cool! My boy also loves the truck and is excited to get working on it!

Sweet. I love the look of the truck as well as your plans for the build. I would be tempted to get her running and enjoy as is.
Enjoy the trip (restoration) and time spent with your son.

Thanks for the comments guys! I wish I could get her running and driving as is but she's got no motor/trans and the diff is locked up! lots of underside rust to fix so it will be torn apart real soon!

Ok finally got to put some good time into the truck today and get her torn down! Its pretty rusty under there! Might just put a whole new floor in?

After a lot of cutting bolts and having TONS of little spiders dropping on me i finally got the frame out and cab off! Frame looks pretty solid and straight so thats a good sign. (except where someone welded the rear bumper to the frame) but that chunk is going to get cut off anyway. I loaded the cab up onto my sled trailer to take it home and start the metal work!

Does it still have the posi rear end in it???, even though you said diff blew in post one...
Next question, what gear ratio?

Honestly I haven't even checked! I did find a box with a few spider gears in the cab so I'm guessing somebody took those out so it would at least roll. I will be taking off the cover and checking to see what's in there and what ratio it is soon.

It may be repairable. There's parts available for that rear end. I'm curious what specifically was wrong or broken in the rear end. A 292 wouldn't generate enough power to hurt the thing. I pulled a posi rear out of a 68 my Dad had. He had been complaining about the thing making noise going around corners. I about messed my britches when I figured out he had a posi in his. I swapped a 3.07 non posi into his pickup. Made him happy, no more noise!!!

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

OK not knowing what was going on with the rear end after 68Gold/white was asking about the Posi forced me to go out and dig it out from the snowbank on the weekend. So it looks like the pinion bearing is seized and the ring gear is all chewed up and it also isn't a posi carrier left in it!!! So looks like its all shot! :censored:
So i will stick with my plan of swapping my 72 rear into it.

A pretty good idea! You can use 73-up axles in the 72 rear (I'm pretty sure...) finding good 73-up axles is a do-able deal. I have saved 3-4 over the years, have one 71 rear, waiting to go in my 67.

Sounds like someone swapped in a junker for the original posi rear...who knows when...

Swapping to 5 lug was thankfully gotten cheaper, lately. You can buy Moser c-clip axles for $260.00/pair, and just have to buy 71-72 drums to convert an earlier 6 lug rear end.

Don't be talk'n about snowbanks!!! :D

Lol ya sorry to bring up snow! But unfortunately it's now a reality here! We've been lucky with not having to much of it but it's here now! The rear out of my 72 parts truck is 5 bolt so I'm just going to swap the whole thing. Since the 72 is a leaf spring truck I will have to cut off and weld new brackets to it though for the 67 coil spring suspension.
