POLL: What color is the original color of your 1972 Truck?

1 Attachment(s)
Poll to gauge the most and least popular/common OEM color for your 1972 C/K series truck.

Please select your original "main" color. For instance, if you have a two-tone Red/White, you select the appropriate RED. Options are those listed in dealer literature and description doesn't match the SPID! And there's an "other" category specific for "Special Paint".

You may also enter multiple selections to reflect other 1972 trucks you've owned.

This is only for 1972, no offense, but it's what color variation information that I have. Perhaps others can create a similar Poll for other years.

*EDIT - GM Regularly used varying/inconsistent names for colors, just like numerous other inconsistencies found from assembly plant. There's the "official" color name, then their's the simplified name. i.e. Medium Blue - Hawaiian.

Ah, I copied that from another user's post. however, Chevy never used "hugger orange" name for the non-commercial line as it was referred to as Firebolt. I believe they were one/same however

Firebolt orange is the name GM publicized for RPO 524 in sales literature intended for the public. Here’s an excerpt from that for the 1972 Chevrolet light duty pickup brochure. The SPIDs never listed Firebolt orange that I’m aware of and instead used Red Orange (commonly) or Hugger Orange (less commonly) to define RPO 524 paint

Casper here's paint scratch's colors for 72 truck. 524 lists as hugger orange. I have spray paint mixed locally and give them the 524 number and it is marked hugger when they mix it using the 524 code. Although my 72 is hugger it is called red orange. That's it. I'm done.

Re: POLL: What color is the original color of your 1972 Truck?

This will be an interesting poll

I've never known the colors by most of those names. Most are not listed that way on the SPID. For instance 524 is listed as Red Orange on truck SPIDs. Firebolt was only used in brochures, so most never heard that name if they don't have the literature. Many incorrectly call it Hugger Orange, but that one is well known from cars and some prior year trucks. I know Hawaiian Blue as Medium Blue, Willow Green as Medium Olive Poly, etc. Even Frost is just shown as White. I have all the brochures but most don't. So I use what's listed on the SPIDs because that's the name anyone with a truck will know. Marketing would change names year to year in some cases, too.

Yep I’ve got a glove box door at the house from a ‘72 C10 that clearly says white/hugger orange on it.

My spid says 553 white/red orange. It designates white top only and the body red orange (hugger 524). Sure a lot of variations.

SPIDs can vary but my point was the brochure color is rare to be shown. I did have a '72 Blazer that said Wheatland. The funny thing was, it was clearly grapefruit. No doubt about it and it had original paint. I was surprise later on when I saw Wheatland is that lemon yellow color, not grapefruit. I don't think Wheatland was even offered in 71/72

Re: POLL: What color is the original color of your 1972 Truck?

I suspect "Wheatland" aka Schoolbus yellow might be one of the least popular and chosen colors. But they are out there.

there's a thread here http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa....php?p=8238567

Beach Burban is a ‘72 and the SPID indicates 581 as the color code. If I understand it correctly, this is the code for a two tone with White roof and lower panels…and Dark Yellow (Wheatland) body. Now that I see there is a Glenwood Green (505), I might have to look for one as that is my actual name…I even spell it with one “N”.
