Project: Quality Time. 69 C10

I think its finally time to start a build thread. I have been lurking for years, and I am now ready to share my bonehead ideas and methods with the world.
In a previous life, I built a 65 GMC short fleet. I sold it in order to start a family, or more accurately I started a family and had to sell it to eat. Fast forward 8 years and my wife and I decided it was time we had another truck. This build will be a family affair, one where I can teach my wife and son how to wrench and weld. The Truck: 1969 Chevrolet C10 longbed converted to shortbed. I bought the truck from a friend of mine with the frame conversion already completed. I have a stepside bed for it, but I am not sure if I am going to use it. I love the look of fleets, but everyone is building fleet these days. This is the truck when my friend bought it. Its long, ugly and hacked up. Attachment 1867011 This is the bed that I currently have. A little rough but workable. Attachment 1867012 PO shortening the frame. PO installed boxing plates where the frame sections joined, a c-notch and exhaust pass throughs. He also flipped the front link mounts and installed a late 70s 10 bolt

This is the way it sits today. I brought it home, and started stripping it. My son is loving it!

Now that its in my hands, I plan on a mild custom. I'm building this truck to beat on it. I want something that the wife can drive, and my son is already talking about driving it when he grows up. I have quite a bit of parts collected so far, but progress will be slow as work and family time take precedent.
The truck has a 350/350 combo, and I plan on keeping this set up for now. I have a new champion aluminum radiator for it, as well as everything else to get her running. I have a complete braking system, including a disk/drum master, new lines and braking components off of a square body. I am planning on a static drop, and so far I have 2.5" drop spindles, 2" springs for the front and 4" springs for the rear. I am planning on running this set up but I will add a block to the rear if I need to. I installed a no limit pan-hard bar and shock mounts on the rear, and I have plates to brace the truck-arms. I will also be adding sway bars front and rear. I want this thing to handle! I have too many parts to list, but I hope that pile starts shrinking as I make progress on the truck. Almost forgot, I bought these wheels with the truck. 18x8 up front and 18x10 rear American Racing. Should look pretty nice! That's a huge tire. Attachment 1867042 |
