best carb for 462? 750 holley 850 qjet???
i thought i was sure about the 850 with the help from a couple people on this board bt i called the guy that i bouht the motor from and he said 750 double pumper, and that an 850 will be too big and i will lose low end power, so any opinions on this are welcome. gas mileage is of no concern, horsepower is only concern, not concerned with top end speed, just basically quarter mile runs, thnaks, sean
oval port open hamber heads, decked, 3 angle valve job comp 292 hyd. cam, lifters springs to match weiland SQUARE PORT intake(gonna get swapped for a performer rpm, if thas teh best for it) block bored 30 over, honed 10 1/4 compression TRW forged pistons double roller timing chain crank ground and degreed stamped steel roller rockers(these are getting replaced also, how do i find stud size?) new pushrods, fuel pump, ARB bolt kit |
I think i would go with an 800 dp Holley......you wont hurt the bottom end power with that many cubes. I ran an 800 dp on a warmed up 455 olds, &thought I would try a 750 vac secondary for mileage.......the milage wasnt any better, & it didnt run as good with the smaller carb!:bowtie:

Somewhere in the attached link is a calculator for carb CFM. I ran across it about a week ago so I know it's there but I don't remember where exactly.
