What is more desireable?
Which model year is most desireable, the 67-68, 69-70 or the 71-72 models.
I see alot more 71-72's than anything but is that because they are more popular or are the slightly older models more scarce? I love them all but am partial to the 67-68's myself. What do you think? |
I bought a 72 because it already had all the cool stuff from the factory.
Conventional wisdom says that the 69-70's and 71 - 72's are most popular be cause of their grill design. I beg to differ though. The 67's and 68's have a strong following and are gaining in popularity. The 67-68 hood design especially looks good on the custom trucks IMO.
i got my 72 because i like the grill better that 69-70 and couldnt find a 67-68 for a good price
i like 67/68 for looks (slope front/no markers) and 71/72 for features (5 lug discs/better interiorand trim packages)

So far it looks like the 69-70 models are the "red-headed step-child" of the bunch. :D
I like a 70 myself.
I like the 69 and 70 because of the grill. This is not just because I have a 70, I have always wanted to get a low mileage original cst 72 and put the 70 grill on it. I think those of us that have a 67 - 70 have to work a little harder to customize ours due to the 6 hole deal. Although now there are plentiful after market wheels for a 6 lug pattern. (this was not the case in the late 80's when i was in high school)
There is a 50's model chevy truck that i really like that is not very popular also, it has 4 headlights instead of the usual 2: maybe a 58 or 59 but you just do not see hardly any of them. |

Well, I am another red headed step child. I prefer the 69-70 years look over the others. # 2 would be the 67-68.

<------------- biiiig fan of the 67/68's. especially the wee window 67's.
i really like a shiny 69/70 front too, i actually like it better than the eggcrate 71/72 grills. when the 69/70`s are shining they are awesome and i think more rare than the others, so it makes it twice as cool.

I love the egg crate 71-72 grill. The GMC grills run a close 2nd. I still like the earlier ones... Just kind of a bummer to spend cash on brakes allready present on the 71-72's. If I ran across a good deal though would still buy one in a heartbeat.
I'd say most like the options discs,etc.. of the 71-72s But I like 67-68 grills, but prefer 71,72
69-70, even though mine has a '71 grille and bumper. Original grille and bumper were wrecked as far as I know, then were replaced with the '71-72 stuff from the dealer.
 Be greedy like me and own 67 68 69 70 71 72 just cause i can :canada: :p  oh its true i swear: just ask my neighbors......

72
I personaly prefer the 72 pickup, after all I do own two (one C10 and one K10). I think all of the 67-72 trucks are great but the 72 is just a little nicer. The 72 has 5 lug wheels and power brakes. I read an article/editorial a while back in Classic Trucks(?) about the 72 pickup. It stated that the 72 Chevy was the most popular classic truck out there except for a 56 Ford. Some people prefer the 67 small back window. Some people like the 69 70 grille. I'm all 72 SWB one lifted one soon to be lowered.
i think our trucks are gaining, or already past popularity of the 53-56 frods.
i just always liked the look of the four-eyed 72 GMC's
67-68s first, then 71-72s, the finally the 69-70s
and yes im currently looking for a 67-68 chevy clip to put on my 71 gmc |
71-72 disc brakes already there.
71, 72 chevy. but those gmcs look good . hell any 67-72 looks good!
I have owned at least one of every year and style but 67-68's are my favorites. The only thing I don't like about 67's are the small back windows. The 67-68 GMC's look great without the grill header bar and fender trim along with the sloped hood. The 67 GMC grill looks great with the logo stamped in it and a fresh triple chrome plating job. It looks oldschool because there is no plastic in it. 71-72's are awesome because of the front disc brakes. Good thing it's easy to add them to a 67-70. My 72 Blazer is going to get a 67 Chevy frontend. The headlight bezels and grill trim was better in 67 than 68 because it was steel opposed to aluminum. It also looks fantastic with a really nice plating job.
I think the '67-'68 is a style that will go down in history as one of the best. I really like the sloped back hood and the small rear window is distictive. When you are driving and see a late model S-10 or even some of the full size pickups from a distance you will see the styling influence in the grill area from the '67-'68s.
67-68 just look smooth
I also like the 69-70 better then the Gmc and 71-72 Because it has the Big cross bar it really adds to the look the egg crate looks too plain I have a feeling with in the next few years they will start making inserts and such for the 69-70 which will make it look even better |
71-72 cause they have disc brakes,5 lug,and most of the time power steering already. But then I have 2 GMC's so the grill isn't that big of a deal:p
I like the 67-68 grilles the best,I am always hoping to latch onto a 67-68 chevy SWB,just can't find one I can't get a hold of yet.Seems like this is GMC country around here:) |
mine is a 71 with a 70 grill and bumper. I like the 70 grill
I got my 72 because it was given to me. I always liked the 69-70 grill,I guess because dad had a 69 when I was growing up...
Chuck |
I like the 67 and 72 years, because thats like the begining and the end of an era, plus i have both. :)
I don't care what year....... as long as it is a short step. :D
Like the GMC grill best, but of the Chevys I like the 69-70 grill and will swap out the 72 grill on my 71 for a 70 grill shortly. Never really cared for the slope of the hood on the 67-68s but like the grills.
To directly respond to Spencra's question,
I think if your fortunate enough to be running around in any of these trucks your on the right track. :metal: Long live them all. 67 thru 72 :D  |
Keep the plastic, look OK but breaks way too easy. All metal is the best! The 67-68 hoods are stronger due to the diff. slope and have my vote even though I have 2 -72s.
Have to love the GMC grills. |
Mr. Bradley designed the '67 Chevy. It is the smoothest pickup in existence IMO.
All of the others are mods to a DAM good start. The '68s are a close second, but I don't like the marker lts and big back glass...... I own a '67 and a '68, both shortys, with disks, drops, fat tires etc. The grill design flows into the rest of the truck. I wouldn't turn down a '72 cst for the right $$. I can change front sheetmetal. |
I saw the production numbers a few years ago, can't remember exact numbers, but there was a considerable number of more 72's produced than 67's...but it was a progression, each year produced more trucks than the last. I think the 67 is the best looking truck....no turn signals. I happen to own a '67, crazy, huh?? Next would be the 71-72. Sorry 69-70 but it seems that a lot of people are swapping the 69-70 grill for a 71-72 and it seems that even more people are swapping the 69-72 front clip for a 67-68 clip...especially on blazers and subs.....just my .02 on what I've seen in mags. and tv shows. I may like the 67 looks better but I would proudly own any year of these trucks!!!
Also, just to show I'm not totally biased, between my father and I, we own a 67, 68, two longbed 69's, one of which is a bad ass 4x4 with a 4" lift, and a '72 1 ton flatbed.
