“New” smallblocks realeased by GM?

Saw this article today, I wonder if this why the L31 supply dried up?

I don't see whats new besides the price.

The only difference I can see is the forged crank. I believe all the earlier L31s had a nodular crank.

I would think supply and demand changed the price point as more people are using ls engines in there builds then using a traditional small block

Selling 400 of an item vs 10 000 of an item can change price points quickly

Seeing as they are oem replacements not performance builds there is no reason for that at all.

I'm sure it's staring me in the face, but I don't see where the price is mentioned.

I read that they are seasoned blocks and everything else new. $2800

The ones available from JEGS are seasoned (remanufactured) blocks. The ones in the original post are brand-new blocks.

This updated design includes brand-new (not remanufactured or refurbished) CNC machined block castings and cylinder heads, as well as forged steel crankshafts...

Jegs still shows the block with Nodular Iron Crankshaft as being available:

Yeah, I wondered if the original story is accurate. I can't see putting a forged crank in a basically stock engine.

The motor I pulled from a 1 ton '99 van had a steel crank.

No pricing yet. I call Radley Chevrolet weekly for an update on specs and availability. They mentioned that they've got a truckload reserved when delivery begins. I will reply when I know more.
