Clutch zbar frame bracket location

5 Attachment(s)
I replaced the original 305 V-6 in my truck with a 350 SBC. All went well, and everything bolted up fine. It is mated to the original sm465, which I left in place during the swap.

Now that I have my inner fender off I can see the situation with the z-bar a lot better. It looks like the frame bracket (that is riveted on) is much further back than on other trucks. The stud bracket that bolts to the 2 holes in the block would not help because it would actually move the stud forward from where it is right now, which is in the rear-most hole.

Do I have to grind off the rivets and move the frame bracket forward to the next hole in the frame (in photo)? I think I'll have to drill a new hole for the rear of the bracket, I dont think there is one there.

The SBC bracket should be centered over the shock & uses the foreward stud hole on the block. the bracket is also shorter than yours.

I swapped out all the L6 parts engine mounts/trans cross member and used the small block parts and everything lines up great . What engine mounts are you using and is the trans in the 6 location ?

He had a v6.
Whole different set up.
If he moves the frame bracket he’ll likely create clutch rod problems.
Easy solution is make a pivot ball bracket that will move the pivot ball back enough to square it up.

Looking at it again the only option is to move the frame bracket forward to align it , the z bar is already to far back and theres no room to move the pivot ball back further also look at the different frame brackets to see which one will line up better

Thanks gents, I will do some measuring today and figure out a good, cheap solution. For reattaching the frame bracket, grade 5 or grade 8 bolts?
