Argon bottle size
Hi all. Getting everything together to start the panel replacement on my 72 cab
For this type of Mig welding, what is a sufficient bottle size for my 75/25 gas? Do I really need a 200-250 CFT bottle? Rockers...1 side floor pan...cab corners....the normal. Thanks in advance. |
Re: Argon bottle size
Unless you are welding for a living i'd get a bottle that you can move easily especially if it isn't attached to your welding cart. I would rather make an extra trip to have it filled vs having to haul a 6' 100LB+ cylinder every few years to get it filled. I use a 80 and do a decent amount of welding, it gets filled about every other month. It might be enough to do your repairs at that size.

Re: Argon bottle size
You can do a lot of welding out of a 150. Anything larger starts getting into the risk of back or other joint injury trying to move it around unless you do that type thing on a daily basis.
Plus, the gauges will give you lots of warning before you run out of gas. Easy to pick a stop point and go for a refill. |
Re: Argon bottle size
I have an 80 and does me just fine.
Its small enough to fit on the cart. And if I leave it open or have a leak ,I am not out much. . |
Re: Argon bottle size
now i run a 330 cf bottle but i weld a LOT . i make sure the screw on cap is good and pick it on / off with the engine hoist .
80 is o.k. but i would shoot for 150 if possible . good all around size i think . also how far a trip to get refill ? and weekend hr's ? this will help you pick a size of bottle . |
Re: Argon bottle size
I've got 75/25 in the 150
And 100% argon in a 300... The 300 is a heavy mother... The 150 is a good all around common size...talk to your supplier.. I bought my bottle , so no rental.. Like said , a 150 will do lots of welding.. only problem I have with the 150 is it always runs out on fri afternoon |
Re: Argon bottle size
Thank you all for the advice! Central Welding is only about 20 minutes away, and I think they are closed on the weekends. If I can swing it I will aim for the 150
I'll be doing a lot of spot/stitch welding, so I know it wont be getting used as efficiently. Thanks again! |
Re: Argon bottle size
I've ran the 125 in 75/25 for years now (owner bottle) and even when I am welding a lot (hours a day) I have never been upset by its size and its easier to move around with one man in and out of the truck bed. Even an 80 would be fine to be honest.
