they have been put on several different frames. an easy one that comes to mind is a blazer, 80's model. Something with a flat frame. you can also take a long wheel base pickup frame from that same body style and cut the step out of the frame and flip the rear axle to compensate for the difference. i've seen them on 67-72 frames. If a man knew what he was doing and wanted a real work horse he should get him a good cab and slap it on a 94-98 dodge 12 valve cummins chassis with a flatbed on the rear. that would be a cracker jack of a truck

i was going to make it a 4wd, already have the stuff to do it, but now i am leaning towards bein on the ground with power steering, and a safe ride unlike the stock straight axle, lol

Re: frame swap?

i would go with the original frame and an aftermarket independent front suspension then. much simpler than trying to rig it up on another frame

Re: frame swap?

I recently sold a '58 Chevy Fleetside that I'd put on a '73 Chevy truck frame. Was a easy swap. Just measure everything twice. Took cab mounts off of '58 frame, drilled holes on '73 frame & bolted cab down with new '58 cab mount hardware kit.

Re: frame swap?

do you still plan on the feame swap and go 4x? what i would is try to find an earlier model with the str8 axles and convert your original frame to 4x which would be easier and you can still add ps to the truck by using GM parts

Re: frame swap?

use the stock 57 frame with 77 chevy pick up front rear axles and transfercase, steering box, and even the 77 transfercase cross members, i have all the stuff to do it now its just finding the time to do it, as it is an outside project, not to mention on a budget.

Re: frame swap?

That is some good info. I just purchased my 55 stepside 2nd series on sunday and the guy want to sell me a 73 pickup that has just the cab on it, but has all the suspension to use to restore it. I am not sure if it worth it to buy for 150 bucks and swap over or just clip the front. Any suggestions

Re: frame swap?

Anybody ever considered a Chevy Colorado frame? At one time I did some quick measurements and if I remember the dimensions were close. I got a cheap subframe so am going that way. With all the problems I have run into I have to wonder if I should have tried a swap instead!

Re: frame swap?

haven't heard of anyone doing that with a colorado. bad part is they are six lugs if I'm not mistaken and up until this year they didn't come with v8's so you would have to fab some motor mounts. but hey, it might work

It is a 2wd. It has the disc in the front and drums in the back.

Thanks
