Brake line bolt size?
Does anybody know definitively what size the self-tapping bolts are that hold the brake lines to the chassis of a '87?
Or alternatively, know where I could buy exact replacements? (Just the bolts, not a complete clamp kit). Stainless would be nice, but not critical. I do know that a 1/4 drill bit cuts a perfect size hole for them to cut threads into. I'm building a custom dual tank filter arrangement for an LS powered truck. I want to use a number of these bolts to fasten the filters in the bottom side of the rear cab mount crossmember. |
Re: Brake line bolt size?
Mine are 5/16 self tappers....look for thread forming bolts...mccmaster carr or fastenal have them
I got mine off a donor truck...cordless impact and a few minutes and I had a pocket full..think I used 17/64 or 9/32 drill... |
Re: Brake line bolt size?
Thanks. Thinking about it more, It'd probably be cheaper just to get them from Leon's auto. There's about 20 or 30 squarebody's in there, and some are off the ground enough that I can crawl under them.
I made quite a nice haul out of there a week ago. Found four diesel 6.2 trucks with hydroboost. One of them had an untouched brake/steering system, and had a closed hood. I got the hoses, fittings, MC, booster, and pedal assembly for $100. |
