Primer over seam sealer
I have a chevy P-10 stepvan and used SEM seam sealer to seal the seams on the roof. The instructions said apply directly to metal so I did. I used Lacquer Primer for the roof and it did not stick to the seam sealer. It cracked. I was going to try Urethane primer or epoxy primer next to see if that works.
Does anyone have experience with this? |
Re: Primer over seam sealer
I used the 1-part SEM seam sealer just recently The instructions say that it must be primed or painted within 0-24 hours. After that it should be scuffed with a scotch brite pad.
Their tech support folks are very helpful, so you might want to contact them. 800-831-1122 tech@semproducts.com |

Re: Primer over seam sealer
I got off the phone with the people at SEM and they told me i didn't have to prime within the 24hour window but i needed to scuff or sand the seam sealer before I prime it. it is just easier to scuff it within the 24 hour window. And they did recommend epoxy primer for my use but also said i could use urethane if i need to sand it smooth. I hope this helps anyone else that has similar issues.

Re: Primer over seam sealer
How long had it been since you applied the seam sealer?
