1970bowtie's SWB build thread

well..i have been here awhile, and have posted various threads of stuff i have done to my truck. so i thought id compile them into one thread. Im about to start building my motor, so they'll be lots of updates to come. but i suppose ill back track and post pics from when i first got it

bought both of these trucks at the beginning of April, paid 3000 for them, cheapest i ve seen around here, so i jumped on it.
the blue truck has a 454 and a th400, and the orange 72 is motor less but has a th350 in it.
found out the 72 was chopped down..p/o failed to tell me that..but it wasn't a big deal

a little back ground on the blue stepper: truck is a 70 model, was built in Atlanta, was originally a V8 truck, although i don't know what Ci. it was. and accourding to the opitons on this truck, its one of the most unequipped ive ever seen..it has 2 options.although it has no cab corner rust, some in the rockers and kick pannels. the p/o converted the truck to five lug,and put 85 front suspension under it,droped in a 454 and a th400...which came out to be replaced by a small block

finally after about 2 months of looking i found a resonably priced short wide bed...yanked that stepper off, and put my fleet on

1970bowtie 07-21-2007 11:08 PM

Re: 1970bowtie's SWB build thread

the bed is pretty soild, only rust is in the front panel, not a bad deal for 400 bucks imo

nope, just had to cut the old carriage bolts out..which is a pain when you dont have the right tools, bent the bolt cutters, and went threw about 30 dremel wheels..

got a couple things done today, picked up some reverse and taillight housing, got to the house and painted them, pulled my gas tank and did the bolt threw the cap trick. cleaned out my cab corners and found a pool ball:rolleyes: .and finished up my gauge cluster that i made out of a stop sign:metal: and pulled the ignition switch from my other truck that i have keys for, and pluged the harness into it...since i have no keys for my 70 model
pics will come tomarrow

we kind of scraped the idea of building and engine, well save about $1500 if we buy a crate motor.
anyone use one of these, or heard anything about them its a 330 horse, and were going with the 4 bolt model
