'63 tach issue
I just replaced the stock points distributor, including Accel Super Coil w/ ballast resistor, with and Edelbrock Max Fire distributor, coil, and wires. The 327 runs great with this system but I have noticed the tach, which is a stock Sun in-dash unit, is not showing the rpm's correctly now. It appears to be low by several hundred rpm's all through the range, including idle.
Any ideas what is causing this and what the remedy may be? Could it be the ballast resistor no longer involved in the system? |
Re: '63 tach issue
I just went out for another drive and noticed this - the engine runs great but the tach seems "lazy". The needle moves but not at the rate it should. I also observed that the needle "bounces" at 3000rpm (gets to 3000 and drops, then back up to 3000 - like a rev limiter) even as I know I am revving past that.
Any ideas anyone? |

Stock Tach with an HEI "type" distributor right?

Re: '63 tach issue
Is there a solution that is known to correct this? Will a tach signal filter sort it out?

Any other ideas, anyone?
I bought and installed a tach filter from Glowshift and it didnt work. In fact with it wired in according to the diagram they supplied my tach didnt work at all. |
