Its been a while since I have posted on this site but here is a pic of my 1962 GMC Custom. I have been working on it for the last 3 years. It has all the original parts.

Very nice! and dual sliders on each side to boot. Looks like a mild drop? please post more pics (interior, engine bay etc) when time permits.

Thanks Southcity! Yes all 4 sliders, what a pain to rebuild all of them. It does have a mild drop. I will post more pics soon. I do have all the original seating for 8 with the original Aqua cloth.

Wow - again, really nice! not often you see these burbs with all three original seats, thanks for the great pics. Did I spy a trailer brake on the dash?

Re: 1962 GMC Custom Patina Burban

I think what you are asking about is the GMC emergency flasher. The Carryall has a standard E-brake but no trailer brake. Though it does have a trailer hitch.

Re: 1962 GMC Custom Patina Burban

the interior is as nice as the exterior, nice job.
do your rear seats have seat belts? if so could i see a pic of how they attach?

64 BAGD 10-11-2018 01:28 PM

Re: 1962 GMC Custom Patina Burban

I do not have seatbelts for the rear. I have seen people attach the seatbelt hardware to the carriage bolts that attach the seats to the floor. Since the rear floor is all wood it would be hard to hold a person with the belt if there was a significant impact.

Thanks for answering.
I have the remains of the original belts for my second seat, i seem to remember the belt was wrapped/attached around the bottom of the seat frame.

Re: 1962 GMC Custom Patina Burban

my seat belts were bolted all the way thru floor with a large washer ring on the bottom so that they wouldn't pull thru in case of impact. I may have them laying around in the shop some where. I'll see if I can find them and post picture.

I saw your suburban at the intervention a couple weeks back and it is very nice! I did the same on my second row of seats. Bolting them through the floor but i went through the frame crossmember that the upper shocks bolt to so they a very secure. i didn't do anything for my third row yet because I rarely have it in.

Mind sharing who re-did your seats?? Or--are those by some chance the original covers still intact and bright?

Re: 1962 GMC Custom Patina Burban

The seats are the original springs but the foam and material have been replaced. The cloth material is from SMS Auto Upholstery. My Friend Louie reupholstered the seats for me. He used the original patterns from 1962. Let me know if you have any questions.

It may be a far shot--but if he's able, I'd love to ask for him to create a second set of original covers either in the turquoise like yours or the "fawn" color. I'm not sure if he would have saved patterns for such a job or not, but that'd be awesome. And-I'd only need the rear and front seats, no middle.

I can check with him to see if he still remembers how he did them. I just gave him some original pictures and he used that to make the seats. You would have to check with SMS to see if they have the material available. Are you looking for the 60/40 seat and the 3 person seat?

I’m thinking that the sliding quarter windows would be cool on a 70 suburban. I’m pretty sure they where not available for the 70 but saw somewhere they where being considered during the prototype phase. Maybe the idea was tossed due to budget constraints. I digress. I was wondering if the 64- and later suburban sliders would fit in the 70? Maybe just the frames with or without modifications and some new glass? Anyone know? Could I trouble any slider burbs out there for some dimensional info?

Very cool looking burban. I also seen it at the interventions. I think I even got it on YouTube as well.

This is a very cool rig! Do you have any details on your upholstery? Fabric and vinyl part numbers? I’m looking to do a very similar design with my panel truck, 1965 Suburban 2nd and 3rd row, but find a better colour match to the Neptune green colour I want as my primary body colour
