Amp going into protection mode
I have two amps. One that controls 2 eight inch subs, and 1 that controls 2 6 1/2 inch speakers and 2 6x9 speakers.
I DO NOT have a stereo deck, just RCA's plugged into the amps and then to an 2.5 mm jack that I plug into my phone. For the last week when I plug my phone in it makes a popping sound and both amps go into protection mode. I got a new phone, but I took my old IPOD out and it did the same thing so it's not the new phone. Any suggestions? |

Re: Amp going into protection mode
Do you have full 12-14 volts with a multimeter at the amps?
Protection is normally bad ground, bad amp, bad speaker, bad fuse, etc. If both amps are doing it, check with a meter, make sure you have full 12 volts, If you do not, you could have a bad fuse that is partially blown. Could easily also be a bag ground for the amp, loose ground, bad ground from battery to chassis, or a corroded ground. |
Re: Amp going into protection mode
As Shawley stated, check your grounds first.
How are you turning on your amps? If you have a switch to turn them on, make sure the phone is connected first before turning the amps on. If the amps are on first, you will here that popping sound as the plug goes into the phone jack. |
