body style LL

I received the title in the mail today for my recently purchased 72 Suburban. It list the body style as "LL". Anybody know what that stands for?

It's the federal standard 2 letter designator for an SUV. The feds set the minimum standards that all law enforcement accident reports must meet, and the info required in the report.

Along with that, they have a format that must be followed. Agencies CAN add as much info as they want, and refer to a vehicle as a Chevrolet Suburban, but they MUST put in the 2 letter designator for that vehicle as well. And for some reason, SUV got "LL"

Therefor, that 2 letter code gets used in most paperwork.... ie accident reports, citations, titles etc

Some of the codes make sense:

Pickup - PK
4 door sedan - 4D
2 door hatchback - 2H
Convertible - CV
Stationwagon - SW

Earlier titles, may not have this type of coding, as the standardization has only been in place within the last 15-20 years. And some states are late on getting with the program.

I think this is the best answer. google "Livery Limosene" and see what you think.

That very well could be the reason for the LL. But who really knows. It's the feds after-all. When the "Sport" Utility Vehicle craze hit, and the roads got flooded with the little wanna be family haulers, they had to find something to use as a designator for the reports, when the soccer moms started stackin' them up on the freeways.

"UT" was already taken. That's used for Stake-bed and Utility-Box type pick-ups.

Wow..... I'm just a wealth of useless knowledge

Since I got suckered into buying my wife an Escalade, she prefers the term "Lavish Lifestyle".

Funny how I'm just as happy toolin' around in my '68 with no A/C.... Ah the simple pleasures.

Ask me again in July how happy I am drivin' in this Vegas heat

Yeah, my 68 is titled as a "4 Door H", but at least this time it's a K20, and not a C15! I had to send it back earlier this month to correct the initial title and it seems they didn't like my suggestion that I only have 3 doors.

Oh, and I only weigh 4199 lbs, thought a 3/4 ton 4x would be more, but I guess they don't want the taxes.
