New To Me 2001 Silverado

3 Attachment(s)
Well as of Saturday night I bought a 01 Silverado 1500 2wd extended can short bed. I bought the truck non-running for $800. Truck is fairly clean for the most part and interior is in excellent shape. Truck has 150,xxx miles on it. Was told truck ran great one day he came out to leave for work and truck would not fire just crank and crank. He claimed he thought it was the crank sensor so he replaced it but still nothing. I plan to start messing with it this week and seeing what I can come out with. Overall I dont think the truck is a bad start to a little toy truck.

Well now that Ive had the truck about a week I charged the battery and have been tinkering with it. I have fuel at the rail, but no spark. No codes, and no security light. There is no power at the plugs going into coils. Any suggestions would help.

first order of business would be to check all the fuses in the underhood fuse box. I dont remember off hand but there are a few ignition fuses to look at, if the cover is on the fuse box they are all labeled.

second would be the cam and crank position sensors. they are about 35-60$ each depending upon where you buy them. they are both difficult to change, the hardest is the crank sensor as you must remove the starter to get to it, but that is all there is to it, an hour each if your handy with tools.

All that has been done already.

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

I did this all yesterday. Wasted money on sensors, checked all related fuses and relays. Checked to make sure it was grounded correctly at the coil harness as well.

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

no power at the coil plugs... hmmm. and your sure that you have proper fuel pressure?

USN_1994 01-20-2018 07:45 PM

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Yes checked fuel pressure as well. Im starting to think its a ECM problem.

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

i had one that was doing same thing. thought it was ecm, had a box of spares, swapped one out and nothing changed. turned out THAT ONE was a grounding issue. if i recall correctly that one was a bad ground under the cab on the driver side front CAB mount. or was that the one with a bad abs unit i dont remember.

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Ill look into those grounds, I already ordered a ECM because it was fairly cheap. If that doesn't solve it then I'm going to look more into tracing the wires and finding a bad ground. I can't seem to find info on what the pins in the coil harness control what.

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

The wiring doesn't really look hacked up or anything either. For the most part its a fairly stock truck.

Yes thats exactly what I've been looking for!

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Actaully I'm not sure thats it. That saysbraje/clutch harness, the plug looks similar to that though.

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Ive been looking through that website as well but couldn't quite find that. That pic helps as well, but do you happen to have one of the main coil harness that the above plug comes from?

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

not a wire harness diagram per se but you might be able to fid what your looking for in this:

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

I think that'll help as well, Monday the rest of my parts should be here I'll tinker with it then. Thank you for your help!

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Check the pcm ground wire on the back of the passenger side head. Give it a good tug and make sure it’s not broken inside the insulation. The other post referred to the frame ground under the drivers door and that one is used by the fuel pump. If you have fuel pressure it’s not your problem. Also is there no ignition power to the coil? Or ground (signal) to the coil?

USN_1994 01-21-2018 10:12 PM

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Ground signal is good, I will check the ground at the back of the head. No power to the coil, wasn't 100% sure which one was the power/pulse signal on the plug so I didn't want to start messing with stuff until I got some info.

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Fuses Inj a and inj b supply power to the coils on each bank.

On the underhood fuse box?

USN_1994 01-22-2018 07:06 PM

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Checked those fuses and they are good.

Re: New To Me 2001 Silverado

Do they have power? With the key on?
