1953 Extended Cab

Hello All. New to the board. This is a truck I'm building for my oldest son. Had it about 18 months. Been working on it on and off.

This is what we started with

Cool build! Is it going on the AME frame?

It's nice to see another one. Good looking build.

Very cool. Lot's of work between the first and second picture....would you mind sharing some of that? With the AME chassis this is going to be a nice one.
And welcome!

Too cool! Nice metal work. Looks like tons of hours to get where you are now. Hope son appreciates what your doing for him. Are you adopting? LOL!

Do you still have the stock chassis around?

Nice to see more extended cab pick ups.

Have you entertained the LS platform?

crestronwizard 02-25-2015 12:43 PM

Re: 1953 Extended Cab

That's most likely what I'll go with. I wanted something massive to fill the engine bay. LSX454 would be nice but out of the budget.

Re: 1953 Extended Cab

Think 5.3 LM4 and a good tune, it will be hard to keep rear tires on that truck!!

crestronwizard 02-25-2015 08:19 PM

Re: 1953 Extended Cab

I like the 5.3's. Have seen a bunch of 6.0's also.

Re: 1953 Extended Cab

I'm going LS too and although the engine bay is massive it gets pretty small firewall to radiator so plan on either a recessed firewall or getting the corvette accessory drive. Either way its a tight fit but it does fit.

I have been noticing that as I look through all the awesome builds on this site. I think we're going to set the engine back and redo the firewall.

That way is more work and less money and seems pretty common on this forum. I chose to throw cash and it and buy the other accessory drive to save space. I have limited fabrication skills. Either way you will be really happy with the LS.

Re: 1953 Extended Cab

We are installing a LS in a 46 Chevy with truck front drive and it all fits without cutting the firewall.,did have to trim the toe board for the 4L60E but we have just enough room for everything, even the A/C, but re located to the top
