Big Block Cast Iron Exhaust Manifolds

Anyone have pics of some stock high performance big block exhaust manifolds? OK, then...how about medium performance...or just something that looks and works good...LOL! Big swap meet coming up and I don't want to miss something that I need.

Re: Big Block Cast Iron Exhaust Manifolds

william, I would like to see the stockers! Maybe the "cop" units were high performance...just like the Blues Brothers said! I could go with headers but really want some cast iron on their for longevity and serviceability.

Re: Big Block Cast Iron Exhaust Manifolds

88 and newer cast 454 manifolds flow better/much better than our old restrictive ones, especially on the LH side where ours makes a square turn down.

Frank...got pics? When you mean the turn down do you mean like in the picture jhow66 provided? I think I saw a set of later model manifolds at Monroe last year and should have got them but was not sure about them. Will the later models fit my Mark IV heads?

I had those in the photo on my 502 crate motor before I installed headers.

I have a 427 in my short stepside 4X4 and I used Corvette manifolds. Had to modify the rear of the engine x member slightly. These are about the closeist thing you can get to headers and be a manifold.

here's the ones Pickmup is talking about.

You will also find a set of factory stainless 454 manifolds made for the P30's 1986-89. They look like they would be a huge improvement. Pickmup had a picture of these all cleaned up and looking pretty a while back if I remember correctly. I have a set I could sell but I don't have pictures at this time.

I like the stainless ones on non-stock looking trucks/motors. They fit great and flow very well.
There is another late model cast set that has a little shorter collector area on the RH side, much like da burb's.

da-burb What is the application for those you showed in your reply? Year(s), etc?

Thanks - Bob

Re: Big Block Cast Iron Exhaust Manifolds

OK...sorry for the brain fade. Which of those sets provides the best low end to mid-range performance? I am guessing the ones Frank showed. I recall seeing a new set similar to the ones the da-burb showed (only they are ribbed without the machined surface) at the swap meet for about $100.

I am not very excited about that expanded metal section in the stainless manifolds. It must be there for some reason. I know those are probably really expensive...WOW...$700 BIN!

Re: Big Block Cast Iron Exhaust Manifolds

Sanderson Headers sells cast iron BBC manifolds for some serious coin.

They would be a big find at a swap meet.
