Cheyenne Super on Ebay - Truthful?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...fCarsQ5fTrucks

Seen this on E Bay and the seller makes the claim that:
1.) Not all options are listed on the "options list" on the glovebox
2.) That 4x4's didn't come with big blocks.

What do you think? Is he right?

At any rate its sure a nice truck :metal:

Someone here will likely know. He seems to be pretty upfront though. A great looking truck despite. Thanks for sharing!

SPID says its a cheyenne super, but that too could be a remake. Looks like a real well done truck though. I'd be happy to have that in my driveway, but way out of my price range.

A very nice truck!
In this day and age a truck like this almost needs more documentation in order to certify that it actually is what they say it is. With a little bit of knowledge and an aftermarket catalogue anything can be faked. It sucks, I know but that's the way it is.

Great looking truck. The owner is correct -4X4's never built with big blocks.

Re: Cheyenne Super on Ebay - Truthful?

No big blocks in 4x4's in our year trucks, 67-72.
Although options on SPIDs are not always perfect, I've never seen an AM/FM listed as an AM or factory A/C not listed and in the truck.

This truck has had options added to it.
That just means someone did some nice upgrades that look correct.

If the seller claims that the truck is all original, that is wrong. Tilt column and steering wheel should be black. Tailgate has the 71 only disc sticker on it. etc. etc.

I love the truck and would be thrilled to own it. The additions don't bother me. Claiming that it is original does.

SPID looks original to me, I believe it is a Super from the factory. I find it strange 4 season air (A/C) is not listed on the SPID, however, that IS factory air on the truck. Big blocks were not available from the factory in 4 x 4's. Looks well done and rust free to me.

Air not on the SPID? Hmmm

I bet the cab was replaced, but the glove box door stayed. Nothing wrong with that A/C is nice to have.

I agree with the cab swap. The left side of dash also has the hole for the knob for switching the fuel gauge over to the factory aux tank. Which isn't on SPID or truck.

Was he referring to this board as the truck gods?

I think its just the plastic covers that the factory puts on that are miscolored?

Looks like the real deal, and a nice one to me. When it was restored some things were done that weren't original to the truck, but only to enhance it. The steering column should be black, the disc brake sticker on the tailgate is a '71 item, and the color is a bit too silver from original. I see the color difference a lot. I believe some paint company got the formula a bit wrong. I really like the way it was optioned being a Cheyenne Super with posi and 4spd. Were that many SWB K/10s really made in '72? I need to copy those production figures down. I know the numbers increased through this body style and '72 took a big jump, but didn't think it was that much.

I too think it's a real cheyenne super with some options tastefully added. Claiming they are original I don't agree with.
Maybe not a cab swap, may have just added AC to a non-AC truck.
If the VIN matched the frame, cab and glove box door the added on options wouldn't bother me one bit.

I would think board member "daburb" would know about this truck. This is down around his neck of the woods. I agree VERY nice truck but dont claim its original factory built truck if it is not... I dont think there is anything wrong with stating factory options correctly installed. I am planning on adding AC to my 70 short 4x4 too along with some other options....

Re: Cheyenne Super on Ebay - Truthful?

I don't see where the seller claims any factory options not shown on the SPID to be original to the truck or that this truck is as it left the factory, other than as a SWB K/10 Cheyenne super. The A/C is the original factory and that's all he is stating.

As of this writing, the bid is up to $24,600 and still hasn't hit reserve. That's pretty good territory these days.

Could AC Be dealer installed in 72? Seems to me some custom dealer accessorie brochures I have mention dealer-installed AC.

Re: Cheyenne Super on Ebay - Truthful?

It is true that not all options appear on the SPID; for example, there are "merchandised" (ie orderable) and "non-merchandised" (ie, not ordable) options, usually dealing with emissions packages or multiple transmission options. Sometimes one or the other will appear on the SPID, but not all.

For example, if multiple automatic transmissions are available, the customer might choose "MXO", in effect saying "I want an auto" but then the engineering specifications would determine whether it's a TH400 (M40) or TH350. Same thing for a manual trans. The customer would choose MMO, but there were two column shifted three speed Saginaws, with differing first gear ratios. The engineering release would determine which was the proper trans for the application.

Similarly, while technically not an "option", the base or standard rear axle ratio is often not shown on the SPID (which is often the cause of consternation on this board).

But - big stuff like AC vs Non AC - that's always on there. It has to be, because it drives a different front of dash and a whole bunch of service parts (precisely the reason we have a SPID label).

What would bother me most is the date on the photos. They are old!

I agree on this...except many people have the wrong date on digital pics. I have an older digital and whenever we take the battery out to recharge we have to set the date...if we don't...it starts as if it's jan 1st 2000. So a few weeks later taking a pic it'll show jan 20 something 2000 on our pics :D

:but: If I'm selling a truck on ebay for 25k+....I would have the right date code on the pictures ;)

Re: Cheyenne Super on Ebay - Truthful?

The date doesn't bother me at all. The restoration was completed 5 years ago, which would be 2006. Those pictures are two years later and three years ago. It has only had 200 miles put on it,I'm sure it is well stored,it's a show truck transported in an enclosed trailer,he invites you to have an independent inspection, and he also invites you to phone him with any questions. I'm sure you could request any picture you'd like and he'd gladly oblige. This ad leads you in and gives enough info to know if you are serious or not. If I was serious about any vehicle I would want info over and above the initial ad,including pictures. There's enough info in that ad to let me know the high level this truck is on. It also lets me know this guy ain't blowin' smoke like 95% of Ebay sellers and that he knows his classic vehicles. If I was a player I would have no problem with anything about this listing. I get nothing but an honest vibe.
