Rear Cab molding mounting question.
 

I can usually figure out how to mount moldings. But this one has me stumped. Is the gray plastic clip mounted on the truck first then the molding snapped on? Or is the plastic clip inserted into the stainless steel molding and somehow snapped to the stud on the cab?

There are also two small 'wings' on the plastic clip. It looks like these will be visible when installed.

All I really understand is the clip is pushed on the stud and the pushed either left or right to lock it on the stud.

Any help will really be appreciated.

Slide the clips on the truck first. Then the trim will snap on with just a light hit with the palm of your hand.
Snaps right on.

I noticed replacements have these wings. Not sure about the originals, but if they had wings they were cut. Near as I can tell, I agree with you - you'll see it otherwise, at least on top. In my novice opinion, cut em.

Per my truck your clips are in the right direction (studs to the right), though I'm not sure it matters................But what do you think of your stud placement? I have some of the same clips, and yeah, they either don't or they're a pickle to slide all the way on. The original clips seem to be a better fit, and the studs slide all the way in.

I used the same replacement clips.
they work good, wings don't show
clip on trim and move on. it's all good.
You can remove the trim carefully if needed.

The stud placement seems good. No to much of a problem sliding the clips.
