Rarest 67-72, not the most desirable however

Ok, LonghornMan and I went to Chicago yesterday to pick up this truck.

It is a factory conversion. And as far as we(anyone we know) no other dealer conversion has this same 3rd door.

When i bought this truck the original owners widow told the board member i bought it from that her husband ordered it new. They had 3 small boys and needed to haul them. And wanted to haul a slide in camper. Along with what you see in the original pic there was also a step bumper on the back that hung out 2 1/2 feet. With a hitch. Real weird.
Had 3 gastanks so they could drive into the mountains and not worry about fuel.
When originally ordered it took 6 months to take delivery according to the widow.

It was originally a 3/4 ton truck from Nevada. The last pic shows it factory. I changed the suspension over to 1/2 ton.

I originally bought this truck some 4 or 5 years ago. Actually SOLD it due to unforseen circumstances 3 years ago. But just bought it back from the board member i sold it to. As he also was unable to work on it. It sat untouched since i sold it to him.

He was gracious enough to sell it back to me.

Let me know what you think.

I am sure Andy will chime in later tonight with roadtrip pics.

That's pretty cool. Looks like it needs the tail end bobbed though.

Wow! That thing is actually pretty cool. How is the metal in that extended area? Wondering how difficult it would be to fix if any rot back there.

Nevertheless, that could be a very cool truck.

This truck was originally from Nevada. So rust is minimal. Drivers side rocker and rocker under 3rd door need replaced.

But anything else is surface.

It's cool ...what are your plans for it?

Wow, is that thing ugly!

Nonetheless, very cool & rare find. I wouldn't pass it up. :)

Well, You know we all have a story about the one truck that we wished we hadnt sold.

This one is mine. And i got lucky enough to buy it back.

Tossin' around the idea of putting a stepside bed on it. I know, desecration.

But in all reality it will prob be mostly stock. V8, automatic.
Smooth out some of the roughness of the conversion process. The roof area is weird.

Re: Rarest 67-72, not the most desirable however

yeah the back of the roof looks funky. And the wierd split side windows. But i think if you put a Short-step bed it would look realy cool!

Looks like a burb converted into a truck? The square rear "rare 3rd door suburban" look?? I'd roll it, people pay big bucks for avalanches, and 4-door trucks (Like me, I have a Mega Cab Dodge) in order to be part soccer mom/DAD (in my case) and still have a truck too, best of both worlds here!

Just looked again, not a Burb, the rear door was made to fit the extension, maybe super rare for sure?!

It was a truck. The bed is a cutdown 8 foot bed.

I like its uniqueness, but I think GM made it look ugly. Congrats for getting it back. It seems that truck is well traveled

It's not a 'Burb conversion. The top is lower profile like a PU instead of the higher 'Burb top.

You are lucky, that is a great looking factory original truck. Good luck with the build decision!

Out here in the Northwest I have seen what is called a "crummy" and it is a Suburban I believe and it is used to haul loggers into the logging woods . I was thinking that this truck with a rear seat would of "maybe " been used for the same thing,,that is ,,if ever there were any out here to begin with..
Glad you went after this original and hope you restore it for all of us to see.. thx for the look.. papa

Pretty cool looking truck for sure. I'd stretch that frame and put another 8 foot bed on it and have one long ass truck!

dude... my USB cable crapped out on my new digi-cam. :( I'll see if I can figure something out tomorow. I'm still dead tired. After making that trip on 4 or so hrs of sleep, I got home and slept for 3 1/2 hrs and went to work. Yeah, I'm a tad sleepy here.

Re: Rarest 67-72, not the most desirable however

Maybe we should call it coogly, since it`s cool and ugly.I see it as a truck upfit,so ugly doesn`t come into play. They weren`t trying to make it look better.I`ve seen simular conversions. Not sure if they`d be the same.I`m sure there were plenty of one-offs.This is prolly one.Definately not factory GM.Rather than bob the tail,I`d lean toward stretching the frame to fit a standard bed, short or long.Unless you don`t care to have much of a bed. It`s kinda odd the guy went through all this for his kids to ride and give up camper space. My kids were more than glad to ride in the camper. My wife and I were more than glad to ride seperately up front.

The Bed on Your Truck Look's Kind of Like the Bed that was on this King Cab that was Just on ebay, Make sure to Do a Build Thread When you Get it all sorted out........

Pretty cool truck! Congrats on getting it back.
Is the SPID label still on the glove box door? Would love to see a pic of it if it is.
