Here is how it looked the day I drove it out of the garage... just goes to show, you can clean up an old farm truck, and make it turn heads... even with limited space in a super tiny garage, and on a tight budget... :gmc2:
I've done more to it now... still need to lower it, and put a decent exhaust on it... but this thing hauls... and has been a fun project over the last 4 years... My shop buddy... my 12 year old Chocolate Lab... Yukon. He worked hard on this project too! Gary |

Engine is the original 1972 4-bolt main 350 (.030 over), stock crank and rods with Speed-pro 10:1 Hyper flattop pistons, Stock 2.02 heads (with some mild porting), Lunati 292 Bracketmaster cam and Lunati lifters, Roller rockers, Cloyes double roller timing chain, Heddman Headers, Edelbrock RPM air-gap, Holley 3310 (750cfm) blueprinted and benchflowed by Lyle Winters racing in Tacoma, WA. There is a stock HEI ignition in it in the pictures... but there is an MSD Pro-billet HEI with rev limiter in it now...Roughly makes 400 hp around 5,600 RPM's. I rebuilt the TH350 myself, and installed a B&M shift kit in it. 2,800 RPM stall converter. Goes pretty quick for a truck. The best part about it is when people hear it they want to see the engine. When I open the hood... people aren't prepared to see an engine that clean in an old work truck... :) Which is exacxtly the look I was going for. It's one of those projects that will be forever ongoing... always tinkering with it. One of my buddies gave it the nickname "Creeping Death"... after a Metallica song. :metal: Thanks for the comments guys... Gary |

I used a product called Heavy Metal Polish... it comes in 3 different grits. Fine, Medium, and Coarse. I used the Medium to get all the oxidization and crud off the wheels. Then hit them with some Never-Dull after that. A free weekend, a lot of elbow grease and beer, and all 4 done. PITA, but worth it. Gary |
Re: Creeping Death
Great looking truck Gary. Good job on the engine compartment. :metal: In what town do you live on Whidbey Island? I enjoy visiting the island, it is a beautiful place.

Holy cats... its been a year and a half since I updated this thread. :) Thanks you'se guys for all the kick ass complements! It keeps the fires lit to keep pluggin' away.
So here is what's been happenin' to the ol' rod... First off I moved in with my girlfriend, that is now my fiancé, that is going to b my wife on March 15th. She found the property with this 38' x 40' shop so we could build my '72, and we are on the hunt for a '73 to '79 GMC K25 to build for her. Oh yeah... she's a keeper. Gary |
