Trany question

2 Attachment(s)
Hello community,
can anybody help me to identify this trany?
Its in my 61 Apache and I think it isn't original. Any owner installed a floor shifter and I want to go back to the tree.
I found a 60 steering column and the rods. Can it be done? Do I need any linkage?

C164, does it means Jan-16 1964

Thank you for your help.

Re: Trany question

It may help if you pan the camera out a bit to show the entire tranny. Lots of us can recognize them by their shape easier than their numbers.

Re: Trany question

You can tell by the shift towers and levers.
It’s a Muncie sm 318.
Likely original.
Your rods will hook right up.

I've tried it, but it's still in the truck so it's not easy to take a pic of the whole trany. I'll try again.

Thank you.

Thank you, sounds good.

But I think the levers are not original? Am I right?
And they are not installed in the correct direction cause the cut the doghouse to make the front lever move freely. It hits the doghouse on the top.

Re: Trany question

Those are not the original levers. You will need everything including the levers for the trans to go back to the column shift.

Thank you Jimmy, that's what I thought.
Next question, what is everything? Does anybody has a drawing or something like that where I can see how it should look like? rods, linkage???
I'm absolutely new in this. And I'm located in germany, so its very hard to find the needed parts.

Thank you.

Re: Trany question

I just went through this with another member. He had the floor shift and went back to the column shift. I have some pictures I took before I pulled the parts that showed all the pieces and how they went on the truck. One thing that will benifit you in the long run with these trucks is a premium membership to this site. That will allow you to post a wanted ad in the parts section when you need something. The folks here have never let me down when I needed a part.

Thanks for that.
I've changed my account to a premium member now.
Hope it works.

Thank you.

Can I get them?
Where can I find them?

Joerg.

Re: Trany question

I have a long tail shaft trans like that in my garage. I think they were in cars but not 100% sure of this. I can take pictures of my tranny and show you the proper side cover for the column shifter. You will need to find a side cover for the column shifter as the levers are different in style and location. My truck has an OD trans, from what I can get from the cast #"s it is a 1957 model trans. I had to use my original side cover on it.
