How to transfer the vin # plate?

If you are swapping a cab or swapping a frame, lets say from long bed to short bed, who is going to take the vin plate or other plates off of the cab and install on the new cab? Is that something you do it yourself or has to be done by big brother? I am asking specifically for CA.
Thanks.

So, if that is the case, if you have a title and related vin plate, you can slap it on to any same year truck?

Coordinate this activity with the California DMV and the CHP, or face their wrath. Actually, they don't get mad, they just put you in jail, if/when they catch you. Do it right. There is a completely lawful process for this.

You have to speak to DMV. We can not allow posts discussing otherwise. That has been a rule for years.
