71 Cheyenne C10-20 project
I'll post info and tons of pictures once I verify everything the ole' boy told me, but as of now I just bought a 1971 Chevy C30 Cheyenne. He said it's a year old 305, and T350. Here's a few teasers...

Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
Man that's a clean looking truck man. Nice find, and welcome to actually becoming a member of the truck side of the site, not just the "Alternate Tinkerings"
What are the plans for it? |

Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
looks real nice... but it's not a C/30. That would be a C/20... a 3/4 ton. Look at the VIN, it'll start with a CE241xxxxxxx... or possibly a CS241 if it was an inline 6 originally... a C/30 would be CE3 or CS3.
The oly way one could get a fleetside one ton would be if it was a longhorn with the 8 1/2 foot bed, and that's a normal 8 foot bed. Still a very good looking truck. |
Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
It has the Cheyenne 30 badge on the side. Also the vin starts CE141xxxx. There was a Longhorn around the corner dad and I spotted, but it was pretty sweet and price range would be way too high for me.
I think this guy was a pretty jenky dude. The oil pan is beat to crap on the bottom, there's some wire nuts and such beneath the truck with some crappy stuff hooked up. The rearend isn't the original, I think. The 305 looks like it was an old one that was just painted and put in, because the paint is cracking off everywhere. The tranny leaks a small amount after being driven. Maybe a dime sized spot on the ground. The oil pan has some good build up, and it has a bad coolant leak, but that shouldn't be too big of a deal to fix. I don't think the thermostat is opening and it's pushing out through the cap and overflow when I fill it up. Course the overflow is shoved down and stuck between the grill and condenser :uhmk:. Plans for it are going to be to remove and replace this crap wiring that this guy did (long chore), take the 305 and tranny out and sell 'em, put in a 350/700r4 combo, if the rearend is wrong then get a new one, replace the interior(but staying with the bench seat, not like dad's), and removing all the dealer added a/c stuff. Don't think I'm gonna put a/c in it, just tough it out. A/C would only slow me down on the highways anyway :). Also not going back with the brown mustard/white paint. Probably gonna go with a glossy forest green and white. Saw one that had it and that it looked sweet. |

Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
Give me a couple days and I'll get a video of roasting the tires off it around a corner up at my work . The 305 is fairly stout and has some nice powdered headers. The carb isn't set right and has a slight hesitation, thinking it's not getting enough gogo juice and too much air. Idled real low and has a small exhaust like at the header gasket, I believe. She's stout, though. Plenty of power and a pretty good ride.

what does it say? This VIN is a half ton VIN. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/images/0010.jpg |
Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
yep... something isn't right here. 1/2 ton VIN, claims to be a one ton... this may be a total mutt, may just be a swapped in suspention... no telling.

Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
This truck is an excellent truck. Regardless of what's been done to it, I looked it over myself and I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
He has a mustang over there that needed a hood and something else and looked like a good flip to sell but they painted it blue and white, like bumpers, side skirtings, wing, and doors and something else white and the rest just rattle can blue  and now he cant sell it.. i mean i dont know why or anything.....

Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
Yeah I'm not real sure. There was some crooked stuff at work, but I did it all by the book and it's mine clear by the state. Title is being mailed to me tomorrow from my bank fresh and clear.
As for the truck, I'm sure he did some underhanded stuff, but it checks out. Dad and I looked it over pretty thorough and tried everything out. It's a restore anyway, who's up for a little extra adversity :metal:? It's also got the 350 badge, so anyway. I'd like it better if it was a half ton anyway, I"ll just make it into whatever I want it to be :). Pictures to come tomorrow. |
Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project
well are you taking his word on the motor?
why not run the numbers on teh block and heads to see what's really in there? sometimes there's surprises... |
