Oh the smell of Oil, Gas, Anti-freeze and "Fast Orange"

As some of you may know I'm gearing up to pull my 327 later this month to go through it. I spent most of the afternoon removing my radiator and stuff off the front and top of my engine. It's such a joy working on a fairly clean stock engine. I'll have a ton of questions later once I get it out and check it over.

A few Lessons learned:

1. Remove the gas cap when undoing that coupling at the gas tank.

I undid that coupling so the gas wouldn't siphon down to the gas pump. For some reason the tank had pressure on it and it spewed gas like crazy behind my seat when I first undid it. Luckily I was able to get it re-connected and I figured out that there was pressure on the tank. That had to be the highest point in the line so where else could all the gas be coming from? Luckily I had a cup and a couple of good clean rags to do a quick clean-up. Later gas tanks in our series are vented right?

2. Don't listen to a radio station that features "The Bob and Tom Show" highlights on it when you have an impressionable 8 year old around!

3. "Fast Orange" hand cleaner works really well but it really drys you skin out!

4. Ask you wife before you use any househould containers for catching automotive fluids!

Other than that the day went smoothly.

lol sounds like a fun day ;)

As for hand cleaner? If you can find a ZEP dealer in your area you need to find this stuff: Part# 095120

If you cant, holler and I can send you some. Working on cars all day/everyday/weekends/nights lol, I wash my hands A BUNCH and this is the only stuff I've found that works extremly good but doesnt hurt your hands.

I think a gallon of it costs 15.00, figure a few bucks shipping and your set. Let me know if you cant find any.

Thanks Zcast (er Piston) but I think I'll stick to the Fast orange for now. It does get your hands pretty clean. If they get worse I'll look at other options.

Yes it was a fun day!;)

Wait till you see her face when she discovers you had your nasty valve covers and oil pan in the dish washer!
It works great....next best thing to sand blasting...but DON'T GET COUGHT.
And if you do.... I'll deny knowing you. ;)

LOL Andy, I know I'd catch holy hell if I did that that in her new dishwasher. It's hard to pull the wool over her eyes.

I'm still trying to figure a way to powder-coat my parts in her oven without her finding out! (No, I'm not really really THAT dumb!)
