New Headlight Help

I'm not a fan of the stock headlights. They're getting hazy and checked, and I'd like something quite a bit brighter at night, too. I'm pretty much clueless on this subject - I looked through LMC's catalog and tried eBay, but there are so many there I don't know where to start.

What do you guys suggest? I don't want to spend a ton, but I realize going to clear headlight covers and brighter bulbs will cost a few bucks. Any thoughts, suggestions, and pictures are appreciated. Thanks!

Re: New Headlight Help

the cheapest route would be to buy a headlight restoration kit and polish the ones you have.i did this to my truck when i first bought it and man did it make a world of difference and now they are clear and bright like when the truck was new.i bought a kit put out by 3m that attaches to a drill and you sand the old faded yellow coating off then polish them and everything is supplied in the kit.i bought mine at autozone and it was around $20.good luck.

Mine were beyond polishing, I spent a reasonable amount on the crystal clear headlamps from LMR (Late Model Restoration) also known as C/K Resto.

Dang things are bright now.

Re: New Headlight Help

I've tried many different brands and styles of headlights for these trucks over the years. The ONLY ones I have ever been satisfied with are the TYC Elegante lights I have on my Suburban now. They look great. They fit nicely without sticking out. They work well. I have 4500K HIDs in mine, which are awesome, but I've used Silverstar Ultra bulbs in them too with good results.

1badgmc - I dig those. That's pretty much what I'm looking for.

I thought about polishing the stock ones, but I kind of want a custom look, too. I don't know, just wanted some suggestions, 'cuz it seems like everything that can be done has been by someone on the forum. Thanks for the info guys.

These headlights alone will cost you more than what you would pay for a full set of headlights, parking lights and corners off of eBay, but when it comes to these things, you get what you pay for. Add in the matching TYC Elegante parking lights that I have and you're looking at about twice as much as one of those eBay sets. There are just some times where it's better to spend the extra money.

Re: New Headlight Help

I second TYC.

I have had TYC's on previous trucks & recently tried to save a little cash and buy the headlight/parking light combo off ebay...mistake.
I have since chunked the cheap ebay lights and now have TYC headlights & parkings lights.
Since I had previously had the TYC lights the ebay lights didnt compare.
They didnt fit as flush as TYC's & they also trapped a lot of moisture.

I have to agree with the 1badgmc. Those are the way to go. Also when you get them drill the mounting holes just a little bigger so you have room for adjusting them, as you can see in his pix they don't mount perfectly. There just a little crooked.

Re: New Headlight Help

I actually got them straightened out last weekend without having to modify the mounting holes any. They just about spot-on now.

I'm in the market right now myself, as I can't stand my bugeyed, yellow Ebay cheapies anymore...I've been looking for the elegante headlights but can't find them. I've tried Stylin' Trucks, Amazon, Ebay...where else should I look?

Re: New Headlight Help

Stylin' has them, but their site is jacked up right now and they're not showing up through normal searches. I have the link to them at home, I think. JWall, do you still have that handy?

This is true as well.

I can find every one of those headlights in that LMC link for less than half the LMC price.

Guess I'll keep saving up my money. Got to pay for quality I suppose.

Says each on the link from JWall. Do you think it's a misprint?? That would be much better!

Re: New Headlight Help

They're only sold as a pair. I bought mine from Stylin'. Take comfort and know that you ARE buying both for $43.

Re: New Headlight Help

So I did some searching tonight and RockAuto.com actually offers the TYCs also. Headlights are $119 and Parking lights are $40. I saw in the 67-72 board a 5% off code for them. Makes them a little cheaper than Stylin.

Does anyone know if TYC makes clear corners that match?

Oh, and RockAuto also had TYC stock style headlamps for $30 a side and stock style parking lights for $5.47. Anyone used these?

No. They don't. TYC prides themselves in making 100% street legal lighting. Clear corners are not.

I've gotten to the point to where I really don't care much for clear corners anymore, but want something a little more up-to-date looking than the stock amber corners. They were really hard to come by, but if I ever get my GMC grille painted to put on my Suburban, it will have these corner lenses...
