Nice buy !
Are you shipping it home ? Or coming north to pick it up? |
Re: Blazer for sale, not mine. Reno, Nv.
Am going to have it driven to Penryn (east of Sacramento and not far from Tahoe); my buddy has a shop there--not a so-called professional shop--more of a car hobby shop. He has good guys that are expert in metal and body work and can also also turn a wrench on seemingly all things related to cars. The truck was purchased in Colfax CA and immediately driven to Tahoe where it resides to this day. Original miles and has not been driven much at all for several years. Given that the seats were supposedly covered almost soon after it was purchased, they may be in very good condition (or maybe not). Again, I bought this sight unseen so I relied on pictures and good conversations with what I think is a trustworthy seller. It has family history and pretty much unmolested originality backed up by provenance like my K10--that is what matters most to me. That, and hopefully not too many surprises on the rust side of things--not a huge thing really-my guys in Penryn eat rust for breakfast, replicating factory spot welds and caulking and worrying about little things. But the best thing they do is that if I love a truck, they love it too and take pride an ownership in their work; again, not a professional shop--just some guys who are knowledgeable and love working on the classics.

Read the second paragraph . Looks like that explains it somewhat.

I found my Jimmy on Craigslist in Reno. It was a great buy.
If you want to, I can ask my friend who lives there to check it out for anyone interested. He checked out mine for me. |
Re: Blazer for sale, not mine. Reno, Nv.
Yes, the second paragraph tells the rest of the story. The seller was honest; he just did not inspect the vehicle as closely as he should have. All rust can be fixed but I did want want to undertake that kind of project. mt

Re: Blazer for sale, not mine. Reno, Nv.
Its a fair amount of rust on the body panels. I would speculate that you need a new tailgate, new door skins, new rockers and extensive welding done to remove rust from the wheel wells. The floor is probably rusted through too.
That will be a bit of effort for someone. But it doesn't look crazy bad. I just bought a new welder, man it is so temptiing.... But if i do that my wife would kill me. |
Re: Blazer for sale, not mine. Reno, Nv.
The floor has rot and tailgate is pretty bad. The top is not usable in my view. I would check the frame as well. If you need detailed pictures, send me a PM and I can text them to you. On the positive side, it has some nice options and a nice color. The engine bay looks original and has the smog equipment. He does not have the Protecto Plate but I think he has the bill of sale. I think the revised price is actually pretty fair. Like I said, I did not want to undertake a project like that at this time--I have a SWB K10 that is almost done and my Jimmy (which has rust issues) will be next.

Re: Blazer for sale, not mine. Reno, Nv.
The price drop isn’t bad but I’m with you on the rust. Just too much work unless you’re good at it. I have a friend who does body work and welds that could do the work. I wouldn’t even attempt it myself I suck at body work. I’ve seen some decent option out there for 10k that have no where near the rust that has. Here in Ca they are pretty common. Tahoe snows every winter and if things are outside they will end up looking like that. Especially when they are salting the roads.
