Finaly got my drive shaft done today! wow this sucker is long! I pretty much doubled the drive shaft length. amazingly enough, the two piece I bought at the salvage yard only had to be modified on the front section. the rear section (according to our measurements) should Already fit! so we shall see tonight. 75$ for drive shaft at the salvage yard and 156$ at the drive shaft place.

got to drive the truck over 30 miles today! so fun to be able to drive it! Next I have to drop the 21 fuel gallon tank from the truck and get the bed off. Shim the cab, align and weld together. put the bed back on, and drive. Rust repair and Drive! Primer, bondo, and Drive! Paint, and Drive! :) :burnout:

Just figured I'd throw this one out there for you. I found this pic a while back and saved it. I'd be interested to see some more recent, more completed pics of it.

Right. Suburban/Tahoe/Avalanche with some really nasty looking aftermarket headlights.

nice work, I think it would look great with a solid axle, and 35 inch tall tires on it.

Yeah, for now the budget only allows for a 3 inch block kit to raise the back and a twist of the torsion bars. New rubber tomorrow! 285/75 16

Had a blowout going 65 mph today. Suffice it to say the frame has been stress tested

ah ok, won't it ride rough with the torsion bars cranked that much, because don't you have to crank them almost all the way to match the 3 inch block? My dad put 3 inch block in his pickup, then changed to a 2.5 so his bars weren't cranked so much, and it road a lot better.

my theory is that the truck is so long some stiffness couldn't hurt. if I find that it is just too rough, I will look into other options. My hope is that I can find an option that doesn't break the bank :)

The first picture is with the new tires without the lift blocks, the others are of the truck with the new 285/75 16 with 3 inch blocks in the rear and torsion bars cranked.

Surprisingly enough, it doesn't ride rough at all. About like normal I'd say.
I am Pleased. :)

Looking better. You need to get some paint on that beast. Even if it's primer to make it all one color.:)

how much did you crank the torsion bars? It looks like they need a little more.

I had them cranked before I knew I was going to put the blocks on. I don't know how much is left to crank. Can you bottom them out? It was ridding higher in the front for a day or so.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

I don't know how far you can go but I think you should try to get it higher in the front, it just looks a lot lower than the rear, when my dad did his he got it about even, so you should be able to get more out of it.
