This project has been going on and off for 20 years,This blazer was actually one of my friends in highschool and I broke my arm in it four wheeling.He sold it and it and the new owner ran into the ground.One day out of the blue the guy that owned the truck stopped by and wanted to know if I wanted the blazer because he was leaving town and he didn't want to take it with him so I gave him 300 just for a parts truck Attachment 1175302And over the next few years I either sold gave away or used parts off of it until it was a rolling Attachment 1175306shell

Over the next few years pushing it back and forth I seen a little red roadster Blazer in a magazine[that later was on the cover of Air Ride Tech]and knew I had to have one,so I started looking for parts and came across a 2wd long base frame from a part outAttachment 1175808
So I cut it down to the blazers wheelbase,welded a 1/4"x5"x20"plate to the inside and moved the body mountsAttachment 1175812
And then sit the body on for the first fitAttachment 1175813

Cool deal! Always thought cutting down a truck frame would be a good way to convert one...

Ok now I'm going to confuse you I cant find pics of when I was working on the frame but i will post them if I come across them.So when I started this project the plan was a low dollar drag and destroy toy and it had to be low so I started with a huge c-notch,made a front cross member so the factory control arms would run inside and parelel with the frame,6" bags and I made a watts link.Up front I Z'd the frame [which turns into a lot of problems later]dropped spindles and 6" bags.Attachment 1176755

This blazer lives in the south so lets talk about rust,when the top and front end were removed the windshield would move back 2" when the door was opened because the rocker panels were rusted through and the rocker boxes were goneAttachment 1177010 Attachment 1177011

I wasnt running a top for support and planned on running my exhaust were the rocker boxes should be so I made a support out of 1/8" steel that would run along the rocker panels and tie into firewall and bottom of the bedAttachment 1177008

Good idea on the torsion box replacement. Curious to se how it works out. Could be something the 4wd guys could go with.

The bed of the Blazer was just as bad,luckily the new tubs and lifted center took place of some of the rust and a couple patch panels for the back sides of the bed and some more 1/8"steel to rebuild the backAttachment 1177768

When I lifted the transmission and driveshaft tunnel I had to cut through the center support,so I made a combination center support driveshaft loop to brace the floor up againAttachment 1177795

I cant find the pics of the frame while I was working on it [it was 12 years ago]but the original plan was to make it low as possible as cheap as possible,so I Zd the front 5" with dropped spindles and bags,in the rear I used the factory trailing arms but made a new front mount so the arms ran inside and parallel with the frame and built a watts link to keep it inline and narrowed the rear end.
when I was doing the work I just wanted it to be strong and didn't take a lot of time grinding and cleaning up welds much I was going to rustoleum and let it go.But a friend of mine[Tony from Advanced Custom Coatings] offered to sand blast the frame so he could get in the tight spots before I painted it but when I went to pick it up he had powdercoated it and my trailing arms and wouldnt let me pay him [asshole] so since he was in the giving mood I gave him everything else I had.If I knew in advance everything was going to be powdercoated I would have spent more time with a grinderAttachment 1180345

Yea,even though the frames on the ground the rockers are still a 1-1/4" from touching-lol
