69 short bed
Hello Gents, I'm starting my first build with the inspiration that I received from looking at your trucks. While growing up, I remember riding with my grandpa in "old blue" a '72 k10 and knew that some day I would have one of my own. So I picked up a 69 short bed, which was someone's project that fell through. Either from lack of money, time or both.

It originally came with a inline 6 but some one converted it over to v8. Upon further inspection the motor is a '69 DZ302 from a z28 camaro. I plan on building up a 350 for this build so again. If your interested in the motor let me know. My plans so far is to strip down to the frame and build from there. I will be updating to power brakes, 5 lug conversion with disk brakes all around. Rack and pinion steering, lowering with springs, fleet side short bed are just to name a few. |
Re: 69 short bed
I picked up a used 700r4 transmission that I am going to have rebuilt to set behind the 350 block that I acquired. This truck is going to be a driver and 4 speeds with overdrive would be nice for cruising on the highway.

Re: 69 short bed
I changed the oil and fired the motor up, and I double checked the stamping on the motor. Its defiantly a 302 from 1969 z28. I took a short video of the motor running.
Tomorrow I am going to take the cab off and start stripping down the frame. I found a local guy to media blast the frame, bake and paint....so that's the next step. I don't know what I want to do for the motor Please note that you must be a supporting member to post classified items. Re: 69 short bed
I found a local guy that will media blast the stripped frame, bake it, then paint it. Once that is completed I plan on doing a 5 lug conversion, full disk upgrade, high performance suspension all while lowering in the front or rear.

Re: 69 short bed
I found this online and picked it up, I figured it would make a nice addition to my truck. Its original.

Re: 69 short bed
I have been doing some research on rack & pinion steering. I originally thought of doing a manual rack, but decided on a power rack. I want a more responsive feel while turning and quicker lock to lock. I have found some good information and alot of good information on this site aswell.

Re: 69 short bed
I identified a cam that I pulled from another motor on hand its a erson hi flow 11h , and I cleaned up an edelbrock torker II intake as well. I know these are older pieces but they will work for now what im doing. I will also change out the factory valve covers for an aluminum edelbrock set that I have.

Re: 69 short bed
I got off work early yesterday, just in time to get the frame loaded up and dropped off at the powder coater. They are extremely affordable, I hope everything comes out looking great. I will post pics when I get it back. They are coating the frame and the cross memeber for now, more later. I am excited to get it back so I can finally start on the suspension.

Re: 69 short bed
With the frame getting coated, I figured it would be a good time to clean up the shop, so I pulled everything out. I degreased the floor, now to figure out this 2 part epoxy kit. It shouldn't be too bad. Will post pics soon.

The floor looks awesome. I want to do that to mine someday. Was it fairly easy to do?

I really like the new shop floor. I hope to use this on my new garage when I build it. Clean shop? what's that?
