I have the Bracket but not the pulley, I wonder if I lost it in the field some where who knows

Here you go, you only need one, they are sold in pairs because the 58-59 cars used the same but needed two. The bolts are sold separately from the pulley. check lmc, pauls and other too.

Bad news.I went to start the truck "turned over fine" but then when I had drove it to a neighbors the truck wouldn't start back up.We charged it and it did fine and then cut off again.I know the Plugs,wires and Generator are all good I am thinking it is the Voltage regulator because of it still being the original one that came out of the Factory.The carb is slowly leaking gas at the housing but as far as I know it was re-built

Neighbor sandblasted the Headlight buckets and I sprayed the E-Brake bracket and one of the Buckets, tomorrow its to paint them with High Gloss Black paint

Carb has been re-built and will hook it back up tomorrow ( Will post photo of what it looks like now since it has been cleaned up)

Did you find the pulley for the brake cable bracket?

Sure did, found out it was still there.I'll post a photo of what I thought was the e brake bracket I have no clue what it is..Going to finish the buckets today before it rains at 4

Before you assemble your headlights look closely at the adjuster (plastic things, one in your photo has the screw in it). The usually are cracked and need replaced. There is usually an ad on Ebay pretty cheap. EAsy to fix when out, not so after the bucket is installed.

I put the carb on after its rebuild , but now it is popping and running badly.I am guessing it needs to be tuned again.

Timing and maybe vacuum leak, messing with the distributor may have affected the dwell, loosened a plug wire.

Turns out my '59s Engine needs new bearings in it..Basically a rebuild in the near future.Had some mechanics come out and see the Engine, and they tested some things and it turned out the Bearings were pretty much worn out for being so Old..Does anyone know where I can buy The Engine Bearings?

Do you know what engine you have. If yours is an orginal GMC engine chevy parts wont fit. On the pad near the distrubter it should tell. its likely a 228 248 or a 270. I have a rebuidable 248 short block. parts might be hard to find.

Before you can buy any internal parts you need to take it a part and see what needs to be done. How worn is the crank, will standard main bearing work or will it need turned? Now worn are the rods, will the rod journals need turned? How worn are the piston bores, will you need to get new pistons and rebore it? Figure the heads will need to be done too. It is going to be expensive not much demand for the parts so they get a premium for them. If you want to keep it a six cylinder to memorialize your grandfather I bet you can find a later model truck with good 292 for the price of the stock engine rebuild and gain more power a newer transmission and better geared rearend in the deal.

Just curious did the mechanics get it running any better as is?

I knew of a 58 GMC that was a long bed granny 4 speed . 8 hole rear end six hole front wheels. any way the main bearings where so loose the mains poured oil. when it was idling you could look at the front crank pulley and see it moving up & down. Made a heck of a racket. so they pull the pan and take all the main caps off. the crank is worn & the bearings are down to the copper. So what do they do. they take a flat file and file down the edges of both bearing halves until the bearings fit snugly on the crankshaft. Wrap the outside of the bearings with brass shim stock to take up the gap between the reduced in diameter bearing and the main caps & saddles. They put it back together and the starter wont start it. its tight barely rotates. so they pull it to start it. get it running and by some miracle it worked . I know it ran for ten years afterward. They used a 50 x50 mixture of engine oil and STP.:gmc2: the entire time those old geezer toothless hill folks where doing the job they had a Know it All Teenager Telling them it was a waste of time. They simply laughed at yours truly and stated during the depression they had fixed T models in worse shape and used honey instead of engine oil.

The original Orrie, my grandfather, told me a story about dropping the pan in the middle of know where and using a piece of leather to tighten up a main to get back to town. He was also a fan of sawdust in transmissions to quiet them down. He also told be how you could count the number of cords showing on the tires and use that as a bargaining point to get a lower price. You have to work pretty hard to kill these old Chevy sixes.

I thought I posted this hours ago..What I was saying was, I am going to keep everything Original.It could be something as simple as the Valves need adjusting or get the Distributor rebuilt..Where can I find a Distributor rebuild kit?? I am currently looking for one as I type this.Thanks Orrie and Old man I will keep that in mind

Orrie has been great to help as well as others. It gets confusing because you said it needs bearings now you say it may or it could be something else. I am not sure what the mechanics did for you but running some "tests" really wont indicate the bearings need replaced. Like mentioned above it will need to come apart and look at the bearings, then the parts associated to the bearings to determine if they were hurt and need attention also.
to bounce from a total expensive engine rebuild to maybe just grease on the distributor is a big difference. I agree it may need a rebuild but that should not make it run like you say it is. Now bent or mis-adjusted valves will. I am not familiar with that motor but alot of the basics apply.
It was asked if it runs better? Did the guy looking at it come up with any tuning issues and make any changes? I assume you changed the fuel filter I think that was mentioned. If the distributor has been out did it get put back in the correct order? That will make things pop if it is off.
I know you are doing your best and looking for help I had hoped the mechanic would have done something for you, it sounds like it was a wasted trip? Let us know what all you guys did to come to the conclusions you have.

Thanks Dave and Orrie has always been a great deal of help to me , to be honest I am confused myself.He is going to come out when it isn't raining and adjust the Valves to see if it fixes anything.I also got a great deal from them, $200 for all of the Welding work on the truck.Biological Father knows a guy who can get all of my Chrome polished up.Also he can get my Original rims blasted and painted the original color.Looking forward to all of this being done

Took the carb off couple of days ago and had it rebuilt and put it back on

Okay my friend set the timing to the Truck, we put the new spark plug wires on and Distributor cap, and Rotor..Checked one of the spark plugs and it was burned..I went ahead and bought ACDelco Spark Plugs...It runs but then cuts off at random times..The carb has been rebuilt..I've been thinking my Valves need adjusting badly

Define burned? Dark black dry, black oily, etc.

If it is shutting off like someone flipping a switch, probably a loose or shorting wire in the run circuit? When just sitting or driving over bumpy road? Cold or at good running temperature? Did you change the condenser too (little metal can looking thing in the distributor)? You can isolate the circuit by running a jump from the positive battery terminal directly to the hot side of the coil (side that does not go to the distributor). Starter circuit will turn it over to get started. If it runs fine and does not quit start looking for loose bad wires. If still dies then in the coil/distributor.

If it is stumbling and sputtering before dying then probably a fuel issue, but you have pretty much taken care of those except fuel pump.

The condenser looked fine to me. It cuts off when I am driving at normal condition, and as far as I know the Fuel pump has been replaced. If anyone has the 1bbl Rochester Carb...What size barb do I need to fit on the threaded emission barb
