Power Steering Reservoir
My 44yr old pump leaking out the back. No leaks from the gear. Questions:
1) Is this worth repairing with a rebuild unit, or better to purchase new at parts store? Thank you |
Re: Power Steering Reservoir
if its leaking out the back of the unit , im guessing there is a very small hole or a seepage through rust. i dont recall ever seeing anything back there but solid metal ..

Re: Power Steering Reservoir
On the back side of the Saganaw steering pump there are two mounting studs and a pressure valve that can leak fluid.
There used to be three tutorials with lots of pictures but i cannot find them now. This is all i can find now. http://tc.wagoneer.org/2012/08/sagin...p-rebuild.html |
Re: Power Steering Reservoir
Can anyone please recommend a ps pump manufacturer? Seeing $50 up to $250 and getting sensory overload. Don’t need bracket or pulley.

Re: Power Steering Reservoir
I can say this: don't buy one of those Brothers Trucks pumps that Holley sells... I bought and lost on that low quality garbage. Try to find a good OEM if not genuine GM... or rebuild it with some good quality guts (assuming there is no case damage)

This, absolutely. Everything available now is from China (unless you find someone with old stock). |
Re: Power Steering Reservoir
I have had good results by skipping the cheapest option at the box store and going with #2 or #3 on their list. There are different quality levels of 'Made in China'. Sometimes you can tell by the difference in warranty. Avoid the 90 day item if there is a 'limited lifetime' version.
Be sure to take your old hose and old pump to compare. The batch at one box store had the wrong threads in the pump back. Different store, same brand of item had the proper threads. |
Re: Power Steering Reservoir
You can get a rebuild kit from the nearest parts store for a few bucks. I'd go that route.
